Connecticut Elementary School Shootings: Online Reports via Live Feeds and Twitter

The most up-to-date information was relayed via Twitter feeds, streaming live video and The Hartford Courtant online about the shooting in a Connecticut Elementary School. According to The Hartford Courant, after the shooter was killed, the situation was still very scary: "one entire classrom is unnaccounted for," sources had said. Police were still searching the school at 11 a.m., and police dogs had been brought in. Around noon, the triage area was broken down, stretchers were taken away and the SWAT team left the building. It was State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance who told the press that the shooter had been killed via live feed.

Reports came from The Hartford Courant and AP Twitter feeds that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, possibly in a kindergarten classroom, left at least 27 shot to death: 18 of which are elementary age children shot at the scene. Two children died at the hospital and 7 adults died at the scene, including the shooter. At a secondary crime scene there was another adult death. The nature of the deaths are being confirmed as the autopsies are performed.

Police reported that at 9:40 am a shooter was in the main office of the school and a person in one room had “numerous gunshot wounds." Once the police had secured the building and were assured the gunman was dead, teachers guided groups of crying students outside and away from the scene. However, there were still students in the building at 10:30 a.m. because word had not gotten to classrooms in lockdown that the building had been secured.

School administration and local emergency officials accounted for the living children, who were released to their parents to get them home. The parents initially sequestered at the Sandy Hook fire department, directly in front of the school were impatient and upset as they waited for the all-clear that the school building had been secured and they could receive information about their children as officials searched the school..

According to reports by AP, the attacker in the Connecticut school shootings was Adam Lanza, a 20-year-old man with ties to the school, law enforcement personnel were quick to point out. In another report by Reuters and WABC, the shooter was 24 and he brought four weapons with him and was wearing a bullet-proof vest. One official revealed that the  gun used in the attacks was a .223-caliber rifle. Apparently, New Jersey state police are searching their state because of a tip about New Jersey’s connection with the shootings, another law enforcement official added. The principal and school psychologist were among the dead, CNN said. Witnesses reported hearing dozens of shots with some saying as many as 100 were fired.
