Google+: no Invitation Required

Google announced today its social networking site, Google+, is now accessible to anyone who wishes to join. in addition, the company stated the site’s Hangouts feature would soon arrive through their iPhone/iPod touch app.

According to a post on the official Google Blog, the company’s social networking site is now available without an invitation. Since it arrived 12 weeks ago, the only way into Google+ was by receiving an invitation from Google or from someone already using the service. However, that has now changed.

Beginning today, anyone can join by registering at google.com/+.

In addition, the site’s Hangouts feature is now being offered on Android-based smartphones with the same functionality expected soon on the iPhone.

Hangouts is a way for other Google+ users to connect in real time using their phone’s front-facing camera.

In life we connect with others in all sorts of places, at all different times. and the connections you make unexpectedly are often the ones you remember the most. we think Hangouts should keep pace with how you socialize in the real-world, so today we’re launching it on the one device that’s always by your side: your mobile phone. to get started, simply find an active hangout in the Stream, and tap “Join”.

Google claims it has now added 100 new features to its social networking site with many more on the way.

We’ll let you know when Hangouts goes live on iPhones. meanwhile, download the Google+ app today in the App Store.
