Upgrading to the iPhone 4S? Here’s how to resell your old iPhone

It’s been a few days now since we checked out seven different iPhone resellers and determined the highest possible amount iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 owners could get for selling their old iPhones. if the thought of selling your phone has been brewing in your head, now is a good time to do it. as of October 7, you can officially pre-order the iPhone 4S from Apple, AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon Wireless.

But where do you even begin? You basically have two options on how to sell your iPhone. First, you could sell it on Craigslist or eBay. eBay will take a bit of the cut, but your profit from Craigslist is all yours. if you do go the Craigslist route, remember to always meet in a safe, public place, like a coffee shop, and make sure you get paid in cash.

The second route is selling your phone via a reseller. You can potentially get up to $361 for your old 32GB AT&T iPhone 4, which is a nice chunk of change to go towards your new iPhone 4S. to sell off your phone, most reseller sites work the same way: You search for the product you want to sell, select the phone’s condition, select if you have any additional parts (charger, headphones, etc.), and then calculate your offer. if it’s one you like, go ahead and complete the transaction. The company will most likely send you a box to ship your phone back in, but some will make you ship it yourself. They’ll then either send you the money via PayPal, Direct Deposit, or by check. In some cases, like with best buy, you can get slightly more money if you go for store credit.

We checked out the prices of the iPhone 3GS (8GB, 16GB, 32GB), the Verizon iPhone 4 (16GB, 32GB), and the AT&T iPhone 4 (16GB, 32GB), and found the best resale prices available at the time of publication. this was two days ago, so make sure to shop around a bit before you decide to ship your iPhone away. The seven sites we looked at were:
