Verizon iPhone 4: Wireless Announcement Crushes AT&T, Maybe Not

The Verizon iPhone announcement at today’s news conference capped off months of anticipation of a iPhone 4 release date, that could impact AT&T’s reign.  Verizon’s stock (VZW) bounced on news of the next big thing.  Or is it really welcoming news?

Today, at a news conference, Verizon officials announced a new milestone in the company struggling to keep pace with an embattled AT&T company.  Up to this point, AT&T commanded market-share of Apple’s iconic iPhone.

The relationship between the two companies were supposed to be synergistic. However, Steve Jobs and Apple played hardball in not releasing too much proprietary information about its high-flying phone.

As a result, AT&T struggled to keep pace with server demands, giving it an eye-sore.  It appears they may have gotten a bum rap.  While the company lay bleeding in the trenches, Verizon capitalized on its negative PR backlash.  The company released news of its own Verizon iPhone 4 to be released next month.

A few things you should know about the Verizon iPhone 4:

  • Cost of the phone? – At this point, the company has set the beginning price at $199 for a 16GB.  Using the past as a barometer, the 32GB model should be roughly about double.
  • Monthly plans and cost – No information has been released about the Verizon iPhone 4’s monthly revolving plans.
  • Antenna – Remember the annoying problem with the last release?  Ugh!  Not this time around, though.  Verizon claims that it has made certain that the infamous death grip does not amount to signal loss.  So far, so good.
  • Release date – The phone is due out Feb. 10.  You may pre-order the phone to lock in yours.

But here’s where things get iffy.  The phones will essentially be the same, and Verizon does not have a leg-up on AT&T about the intricacies of the coveted phone.  How about apps? Not! Verizon said that Apple has enough to offer.  And finally, instead of running the iPhone 4 on the 4G network, it doesn’t.  What’s up with that? Get more detailed information about the Verizon iPhone 4 before it’s released in February.
