Greek Crisis: Is This Real Unity Progress?

What made opposition leader Mr. Antonis Samaras to accept at the last minute the agreement?

Mr. Papandreou, after winning a confidence vote last Friday, proposed a unity government that would lead Greece through the implementation of the new EU package. However, the opposition leader Mr. Antonis Samaras rejected this and asked for snap elections in order for the Greek people to decide, remaining attached to his position until yesterday afternoon when suddenly accepted all the terms of the proposed agreement only if Mr. Papandreou would resign. Several analysts suggest that this revulsion was not the result of creative or patriotic thinking but rather one that occurred under immense pressure from both within and abroad.

Whether or not Greece is entering a new era of unity, serious questions remain unanswered as to the legitimacy of this latest deal and the implications that it may have in the future.
