IPhone 5 Will Be ‘Fairly Different,’ Report Indicates

Reports suggest that we don’t have very long to wait until the next-generation iPhone is launched.

The New York Times reports that the launch is just weeks away, citing a source inside Apple.

“We’re just weeks away from the announcement of the new Apple iPhone 5, according to an Apple employee who asked not to be named because he was not allowed to speak publicly for the company,” reporter Nick Bilton wrote.

This isn’t really much of a surprise–there has been a lot of chatter about an October launch, though a lot of it based on sketchy information, including a report that would be completely laughable were it not for the fact that the proposed date is in the right ballpark.

But the new York Times report does offer a few other hints, the source apparently confirming that the iPhone 5 will be markedly different–both inside and out–from its predecessor. The 8MP camera we’ve heard so much about was confirmed by the source, as well as an A5 processor.

Another detail made conspicuous by its omission is the possibility of two handsets being launched–the report only talks of one new iPhone.
