Meet Rob the Guy Behind iPhone 5 Experiment!

Remember Rob Shoesmith? The marketer and employee for MEDL Mobile based in UK, that’s now on a 2 month long sabbatical leave to complete his iPhone 5 experiment. I previously got in touch with Rob and offered me an email interview which of course I immediately took the opportunity. Once every thing was confirmed and checks out, within minutes, my head flew with all the question that pops in my head, so I wrote every question and of course remove those inappropriate question and sent the email to Rob.

Without further ado, let’s get inside Rob’s head and see what is it like to be the guy to leave everything and waited for the new iPhone 5 for more than 2 months.

Full name: Rob Shoesmith

Age: 30

Profession (day job): Marketing And PR Executive For MEDL Mobile ( App Developer )

Why the heck did you do the experiment and what do you expect to achieve after doing the experiment?

I love apple and the products they sell. In my view the iPhone is by far the best smartphone on the market by a mile. I love Apple product launches and thought it would be fun to do something different. The idea of the experiment is to see if I could live indirectly off Apple’s huge marketing and media coverage through donations from other companies. The response has been insane! I work for a mobile app developer MEDL Mobile and obviously I will be making a lot of new connections throughout.

Did Apple contact you regarding the experiment that you are doing? Probably disclose some information about the upcoming iPhone 5, Something like

"Dear Rob,

You’re crazy and out of your mind doing this experiment, because we won’t be releasing iPhone 5, it’s gonna be iPhone 4.5.

iPhone 5 won’t be out until the summer of 2012"

I’d prefer to keep any communication between Apple and myself confidential.

Did someone pushed you in doing the experiment?

No, I love the iPhone and meeting fellow like minded people who love their tech.Do you see yourself doing this every year or every product release of Apple?

I would say no. I think once you try something you should try and come up with something different. I have a couple of other ideas I’m thinking about doing next year. You obviously got a lot of media coverage doing the iphone 5 experiment, did you also got a lot of job offer?

No I have received no job offers. I’m in a very happy place right now. I have only just started my new job as a Marketing and PR Executive for MEDL Mobile who are an app developer. I love what I do so don’t have any intention of moving on at present. What did your boss, Girl friend (I would assume you have a GF if not Wife), family said after telling them about your iphone 5 experiments?

They thought I was crazy! I knew I could make it work and was determined to proof to them it would be possible. What have you learn so far at this point of the experiment?

The sheer volume of companies who all want to be a part of a new Apple launch. It’s been amazing the different types of companies that have been in touch that are not even in the tech industry. What do you think about the upcoming iPhone 5? Any features/specs that you want to be in the new phone?

I would love for it to have a better camera and battery life. I blog a lot so maybe a bigger screen would be great.
