The iPhone 4S And The HTC Evo 3D – How These Two Great Phones Compare

Apple are set to launch their new iPhone 4S handset imminently. The handset is undoubtedly the most eagerly awaited of the year thanks to numerous improvements and updates over its predecessor. Apple are set to face stiff competition in the coming months thanks to other top brands releasing innovative and groundbreaking devices. Here we take a look at the HTC Evo 3D and see how it compares to Apple’s latest masterpiece.

If you are looking for a mobile that catches the eye then these two phones should be at the top of your list thanks to sleek styling and modern looks. The iPhone 4S uses exactly the same body as its predecessor the iPhone 4. This means the phones uses the “glass sandwich” design with the front and rear panels being constructed from toughened glass and with a metallic strip running between the two. This design does look great but as it has been around for about 15 months it does not feel as fresh as it once did. The HTC Evo 3D outshines the Apple phone in this area despite looking remarkably like the majority of other HTC handsets released in the past year. The manufacturers have enhanced the appeal of this model by adding a textured back panel together with some red touches that give the model a sporty look and feel. Despite the HTC offering a 3D screen it still cannot match the 4S for overall display quality. The iPhone packs an impressive 960 x 640 resolution into its display compared with the 960 x 540 that HTC use. In terms of screen size the iPhone measures 3.5 inches which is a nice compromise and helps the phone remain compact as well as show an image large enough for most uses. The HTC measures in at a much larger 4.3 inches but whilst this has obvious benefits in areas such as movie playback and gaming it does mean that the handset is physically much larger. The varying screen sizes also have an effect on the pixels per inch ratings of the two models with the 4S offering a huge 326 compared with the 256 present on the Evo 3D.

Looking under the bonnet of these two models there is very little to choose between them. The iPhone 4S uses the impressive Apple A5 chipset that has recently been incorporated into models such as the iPad 2. This set up comprises of a powerful dual core ARM Cortex A9 1Ghz processor and a PowerVR SHX543MP2 graphics processing unit. Together these ensure that the device not only operates at high speed but also gives crystal clear and lightning fast reproduction of graphics which makes the model ideal for gaming. The HTC Evo 3D also uses a dual core processor but the MSM8660 Snapdragon chip that is present is slightly more powerful than the Apple chip at 1.2Ghz. Despite this slight difference it is very hard to fault either of these model for their performance and they both prove to be two of the very best phones available in this department. Whereas the Evo 3D uses the popular Android operating platform the iPhone uses the renowned iOS software and the new version used here is better than ever. A new notifications centre and excellent additions such as iMessage and Newstand ensure that the platform remains ahead of Android.

There is little to choose between these two models however the iPhone 4S ultimately proves the superior handset in this comparison. The Retina display remains the best around whilst the OS updates means that HTC have a little more work to do before they can overtake the mighty iPhone.
