How to Play Your iPhone Through Your Car’s Speakers

With ample storage and plenty of media player apps, the iPhone can be used as an MP3 player of sorts. Additionally, other popular mobile apps by companies like Pandora and Last.FM allow consumers to listen to internet radio channels on their phones.

However, the average person tends to listen to music in the car. Older car stereos come with CD players, and this is incompatible with the way people consume digital music today. If you have an iPhone, you can actually listen to the music from your device through your car’s stereo speakers. Let’s examine how this can be done.

Using an FM Radio Transmitter or Bluetooth Functionality

Bluetooth technology can be used to connect smartphones to car stereos. in some cases, the speakers themselves are able to be used as an extension of the phone receiver, allowing for hands-free voice calls. If you have an older stereo that isn’t Bluetooth enabled, you could use an FM transmitter to send audio signals from your iPhone to your car speakers.

FM radio transmitters must be set to the appropriate channel on the radio, and that channel must be clear of any signals locally. When you are traveling through a major city, you will need to pick your channel very carefully to avoid interference from nearby stations.

Cell phone accessory companies make adapters that can also connect via a car stereo’s cassette deck in the event that it is an older model without even a CD player. most of these types of products are very inexpensive, so you can begin playing your MP3 downloads in the car without spending a ton of cash.

Connecting Your iPhone directly to Your Car’s Stereo Speakers via a 1/8 Auxiliary Cable

Some car stereos come with auxiliary inputs. these typically interface through a 1/8 cable port which is the same output on many MP3 players and smartphones. an iPhone can be connected to the stereo through this type of input.

The cables are commonly available at electronics stores as they are used for a variety of different electronic devices. They are affordable, so you can pick one up for just a few bucks.

Regardless of your level of income, there are many affordable options out there. however, the solution will probably be dictated by the specific features on your car stereo. Even if you have an outdated stereo system, the FM transmitter option is a great worst-case scenario. consider these tips if you’d like to begin listening to your favorite MP3 downloads from your iPhone on your car’s stereo speakers.

This is great for situations where holding a phone is hard to do such as when you are driving a car, or when you are working at the office and you have got to do several things at the same time. The most popular bluetooth headset out there for the iPhone is the Jawbone noise shield bluetooth headset made especially for the iPhone.

Of course what most people are worried about is the visual impact a bluetooth headset has, and this one does not fail to please. It is absolutely amazing in terms of visual appeal. Three out of four iPhone buyers now opt for the 4S – iPad/iPhone – Macworld UK

New data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners reveals that almost ten per cent more Android and BlackBerry users are switching to iPhones in comparison to data recorded the beginning of the year. plus, 73 per cent of all iPhone buyers are going for the iPhone 4S, the latest model of Apple’s iPhone.

Apple Insider reports that 38 per cent of customers that invested in a new iPhone in April switched from an Android or BlackBerry smartphone. That percentage is up from the 29 per cent of platform switching iPhone buyers recorded in the February survey, and is even two per cent higher than it was when the iPhone 4S first launched last year.

According to the survey, which had 7,348 US participants, 521 of which were eligible to respond, 50 per cent of the iPhone 4S buyers went for the 16GB model. a smaller 34 per cent purchased the 32GB model, and just 16 per cent chose the biggest and most expensive 64GB model.

In total, 73 per cent of all iPhone buyers that took part in the survey bought the iPhone 4S, while 22 per cent got the iPhone 4, and just 5 per cent chose the older iPhone 3GS model. That 73 per cent 4S figure has increased from 69 per cent in the February survey.

iPhone Complaints – Problems With the Most Used Gadget on the Planet

The launch of the iPhone was one of the most anticipated gadgets to hit the high street, with customers queuing for hours and hours to be the first to get their hands on one. Yet when they unpacked their slick and stylish looking Apple iPhone, many encountered not only connection problems but sensed a disappointment with the software and hardware features available.

There’s no doubt that the iPhone is a must-have fashion gadget with excellent features, such as the ability to use the phone as an iPod, a sleek high-resolution touch screen and extremely slim design. Yet there are many features one would expect as standard on the phone, which are found on many much cheaper models.

Connection problems

When customers got their new phones back home they couldn’t activate them for many days, with the network being jammed or communication failure with the iTunes store. once up and running, the disappointments continued as they began to discover several simple and frustrating limitations with hard and software.

Hardware Shortcomings

  • The camera is only 2 mega pixels – on many other cheaper phones a 5 mega pixels camera comes as standard.
  • The headphone jack is only compatible with iPhone headphones and a few other brands. many customers are angry that they cannot plug in their own better quality head phones.
  • The screen can scratch easily and some of the cases and sleeves can scratch it further.
  • There is no removable battery – it has to be sent to Apple to replace, at a cost of $69 and a three day turnaround. This is extremely frustrating for anyone who habitually carries spare batteries because they are constantly on the move.
  • The touch screen takes some getting used to – there is no button keyboard and for those with large fingers a touch screen format is extremely frustrating.
  • Files cannot be sent and opened via Bluetooth.

Software Problems

  • Voice dialing is not available
  • You can only use one of 25 tunes for the ring-tone and cannot import music from iTunes to use as your ring tone.
  • You cannot cut and paste text – which is frustrating for those who blog and send files via email
  • You cannot create or edit new Microsoft Office documents – you can only display them.
  • There is a lack of Flash support in the web browser, meaning some sites won’t open properly because they are multimedia rich. This is a real shame considering the high-resolution screen.

Despite the problems, sales of the iPhone continue to soar, with customers the world over desperate to get their hands on the most fashionable gadget. whilst the iPhone certainly has some incredible features, and is brilliant for those who love to listen to music on the go, one might be better investing in the latest iPod and choosing a phone with all the necessary features to suit your lifestyle.

A Guide To Using An iPhone In Your Car

If you drive a lot and love to listen to music in your car, then you must have thought of hooking up the iPhone to your car stereo.

The problem is, doing this can be difficult. Unfortunately, there are no car stereo manufacturers which have come up with an all-in-one device capable of seamlessly hooking up your iPhone to the car.

In this article, we’ll take a look at some options we have for hooking up your iPhone to the car.

1. Overview
As mentioned, there are no integrated solutions for connecting the iPhone to the car stereo. as a result, we’ll need to look at various component solutions. these are listed below.

2. Option 1 – Budget Solution
Here we need a car mount, car charger, FM transmitter and headphones. In this approach, we first mount the iPhone onto the car.

Then we hook up the iPhone to a car charging device to keep it full of juice. we also hook up a FM transmitter which broadcasts audio from the iPhone to a specified FM radio channel on your car stereo.

Finally, plug in your iPhone headphones and you’ll be able to listen any incoming phone calls. the problem with this approach is that the sound quality coming out of the FM transmitter may be sub-optimal.

3. Option 2 – Cassette Tape Deck Solution
The second option is to use a cassette tape adaptor. as before, we mount the iPhone into the car. now In the market, there are cassette adapters which connect to the iPhone headphone jack. we hook up the iPhone in this manner, and any music output from the iPhone can be heard through the cassette tape. A good car cassette adaptor I’d recommend is the Philips PH2050W which goes for under $15.

Now, we have a little problem -the cassette adaptor uses the iPhone headset port for connecting to the iPhone speaker. so how do you receive any incoming calls on the iPhone?

The answer lies in a Bluetooth headset. Invest in one of these and you’ll be able to listen to iPhone music through the cassette adaptor and yet still receive calls using the Bluetooth headset.

And for your info, the audio quality from the cassette adapter is far superior and consistent compared to that from the FM transmitter.

4. Option 3 – the Most Integrated Solution
Now, there’s a 3rd option we can look at that is optimal compared to the previous two.

One of the better car integration products in the market for the iPhone is the Bluetrek / Contour Design SurfaceSound Compact. This device adds a Bluetooth 2.0 microphone and flat panel NXT speaker combination to your car visor.

So what happens is that when you get into your car, switch on the SurfaceSound Compact and your iPhone and the two will seamlessly connect.

Receiving and dialling phone calls is done through Bluetooth – so no messy wires there. for music, again, there is no wired connection as the SurfaceSound Compact will automatically stream music to your car stereo. the only cable you have is one for charging the iPhone.

Conclusion
So on the whole, I’d say that in terms of car integration, the iPhone as a phone and music device in the car has not really come of age yet. I’m still waiting for a good manufacturer to design a seamless device which can hook up the iPhone (or iPod or even the iPad) to your car with utmost simplicity.

Most of the products I’ve seen on the market (with the exception of the SurfaceSound Compact) are still considered sub-optimal solutions which require a lot of manual cable integration. Let’s watch this space and hope for better products in the future
