Samsung Galaxy S II 4G Android Smartphone Review – Mobile Magazine

It’s hard to believe that Samsung’s attempt to tackle the iPhone three years ago was the abysmal Samsung Instinct. my, how far have they’ve gotten since then. Samsung has skyrocketed to become one of the top manufacturers of Android smartphones and arguably one of their greatest creations to date is the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G.

The version I was offered to review is available through Bell Mobility in Canada. a US release through Verizon, Sprint and AT&T is expected shortly the next week.

Features at a Glance

Just unveiled earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy S II is the official successor to the wildly successful Samsung Galaxy S. Most of the variants of that phone were largely the same, like the Vibrant and Captivate, save for some minor design cues. the guts were all pretty much identical.

In the case of the Galaxy S II, the specs have pretty much been bumped up across the board. This starts with the positively gorgeous 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. All of the original Galaxy S phones had the standard 4.0-inch screen. I don’t need to tell you that this screen is easily the most amazing one you’ve ever seen on a smartphone. Photos really don’t do it justice. the colors are amazing vibrant, making games and other graphic-leaning apps that much better. and yes, it’s damage-resistant Gorilla Glass to boot.

Of course, the processor is worth mentioning too. whereas both the original Galaxy S and the Samsung-made Nexus S were doing the 1GHz single core thing, this phone gets bumped to a 1.2GHz dual core Cortex-A9 processor. the full gig of RAM certainly helps too.

Other highlights include the 8MP rear camera (which I’ll get to in a moment), 2MP front camera, 1080p video recording, accelerometer, proximity sensor, 16GB of internal memory, microSD slot (up to 32GB), WiFi-N, Bluetooth 3.0+HS, microUSB, and GPS (plus aGPS support).

Design and Layout

With the Google Nexus S, they did that curved oleophobic screen and a cheap-ish glossy black plastic back. with the Galaxy S II, Samsung abandoned both of those ideas. You get back to a regular flat screen and that’s perfectly fine for me. I’m also happy to see that they got rid of that cheap black plastic and opted for a slightly textured back. it offers just enough grip and just enough “class” to make this feel like a premium product.

Two things will still strike you immediately about the Galaxy S II. First, it’s thin. like seriously thin. like 8.49mm thin. That’s pretty amazing, easily outdoing many other smartphones in this realm. It’s also very light at 116 grams. When you compare that to something like the iPhone 4 (137 grams) or the Motorola Atrix (135 grams), the difference becomes immediately apparent.

In terms of layout, there’s not a lot to report. You get the volume controls along the left edge and the power button on the right edge. the microUSB connector is in the bottom, but unlike the first Galaxy S, the port is exposed. You’ll also notice that this phone gets rid of the usual “home” and “search” buttons that accompany most Android phones, relying on the “menu” and “back” buttons instead. there is a hardware button in the middle, seemingly taking a square-ish approach to the iPhone home button, that serves as, well, the home button.

Gingerbread with TouchWiz UI

If you want a stock Android experience, you’re not going to get it here. You’re probably better off getting the Nexus S or waiting for the Nexus Prime. That’s because, not surprisingly, this phone does TouchWiz UI v4.0.

Yes, it’s somewhat iPhone-esque in that the apps are arranged in pages and you swipe horizontally to get through them. This is quite different than stock Android or HTC’s Sense. for some, TouchWiz is going to be a turnoff, but I have no quibbles about it. aside from that, the customizable homescreens (as usual) come in handy with all the widgets and such. interestingly, the “main” home screen is screen 1 (all the way to the left), which is different from some previous Samsung Android phones where “home” was the middle screen (4).

Front and Rear Cameras

That’s an eight megapixel shooter on the back, but we all know that megapixels are not the same as image quality. I’m surprised that Samsung didn’t equip the Galaxy S II with some sort of specially-skinned camera app, but the resulting quality is quite good given the right lighting conditions.

Consider this shot and this shot, both of which were taken outdoors under natural light. the second one is challenging, because I was in a space between a darker shadow and overbearing sunlight, so there is some significant “washing out” of detail.with more even lighting, this photo turned out quite well. a photo I took with flash shows how strong the flash is, but it can easily blast out the photo too. Even though the front-facing camera is only 2MP, the quality of this shot is perfectly reasonable too.

As far as smartphone cameras go, I have little to complain about here aside from the lack of additional controls. that can likely be saved with a better camera app, giving you options like zoom, color balance, and so forth.

Performance and Network Speeds

When it comes to so-called Android superphones, the Samsung Galaxy S II is currently among the top of the heap. Spec for spec, it beats out the HTC Sensation 4G in a few areas, for instance. the processor is fast, there’s plenty of RAM, and I experienced virtually no slowdown even when running more than a few apps and widgets. This was even true when streaming media over the Internet. Unless you’re doing some heavy lifting, though, it’s unlikely you’ll notice a huge difference over the single core 1GHz smartphones out there.

Interestingly, battery life is largely unaffected by the increase in clock speed and the addition of an extra core. with intermittent “normal” use, I was able to get a solid day out of the phone without having to reach for a wall outlet. This is with the automatic brightness settings activated, and with both GPS and WiFi mostly turned off. I would like to see even more battery life, but all Android phones face this challenge. Compared to single core smartphones, even with smaller screens, the Galaxy S II might even outperform their battery life.

In terms of network speeds, Bell is marketing this phone as the Galaxy S II 4G. It’s up to you to decide if HSPA+ is really 4G, but in a very real sense, it’s pretty fast. I used the iPhone mobile speed test, ensured I was on the H+ network with full bar of signal. the download was clocked at 16.32 Mbps (based on 7936KB in 4 seconds). That’s not quite the theoretical limit of 21Mbps, but it breaks the 14.4Mbps limit of the HTC Sensation 4G (also through Bell). Upload, though, was pretty abysmal at 0.37Mbps.

Conclusion

Unequivocally, the Samsung Galaxy S II is one of the best Google Android smartphones on the market today. It’s incredibly thin, the Super AMOLED Plus screen is simply breathtaking, and it has performance up the wazoo. the only thing that might hold you back is the TouchWiz UI, which isn’t everyone’s bag.

That and you know that there is always something nicer in Android land just around the corner. at some point, you need to draw your line in the sand and choose what suits your needs right now, rather than waiting for the next Android phone to come out a few months from now. and the Galaxy S II is a great place to draw that line right now. I just hope that Samsung keeps up with the Android updates.

Are Tablets Really Necessary? (A Delightful Rant)

I feel like the black sheep in the Tablet herd, questing to find meaning within this gadget’s baffling existence, but always strolling away with a sprinkling of pros and a bushel of cons. let me spew more diesel onto the incendiary spectacle by adding this to the table: I think tablets are one of the most pointless and overrated devices ever to be devoured by the consumer market. they are expensive, shiny, adult toys that serve as status symbols in most cases. underneath the allure of a larger screen, tablets are merely big smartphones that can’t make calls. I was talking to someone last week who was asking me if they should purchase a tablet “just to have one,” which is testament to my ultimate theory that humans will consume like termites until there is nothing left, even if it’s moldy balsa wood. Phones will no longer be the prime bread and butter for carriers and manufacturers as long as tablets will remain popular. But look what happened to Pogs. I still have a city skyline of pog stacks and slammers that are languishing away in a dank storage unit somewhere along the eastern seaboard. Tablets are the Pogs of the Electronic world.

Gauging by the cataclysmic nature of the smartphone market, consumers are already being ushered into expensive data contracts for two long years at a time. the average tech savvy consumer already pays between $100-300 for a smartphone with a $90-130 calling/texting/data plan. most of those consumers also own a laptop or PC for tackling tasks that require more processing power under the hood. Personally, I rely on a 13-inch MacBook Pro that has not flinched once for two years and was purchased for around $1400 with a few extras like Microsoft Office and boosted RAM. I use an iPhone for emails and light internetting, but the MacBook Pro usually travels everywhere with me. And to those who squawk about how heavy and cumbersome a laptop is compared to a tablet, may I ask if you are carrying around an 8-foot piece of plywood daily? No? Alllllrighty then. if it can fit in your backpack, then zip the lip—there is no argument for size and weight when you compare a compact laptop to a tablet. at that point, you’re splitting hairs like Paris Hilton crying over a latte with 3mm of too much foam.

Now what about power? I’ve reviewed several tablets, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, HTC EVO View 4G, iPad 2, and Motorola XOOM, all of which lagged at some point or another, and proved to be slower and far less equipped than a dedicated laptop. Comparing Firefox or Chrome to an Android browser is like foisting a Camaro on a Geo Metro. I will say that the iPad gave me far less guff, but it still stumbled and sputtered when stacked against a MacBook Pro. And how about the ghastly, vomit-inducing virtual keyboard on a tablet? Forget hasty text input on a tablet. There’s nothing more vexing than a supersized smartphone keyboard when compared to a luscious laptop keyboard with keys that actually respond the instant you press their physical bodies. oh sure, there are the tablet accessories, which send me into a fit of mad Hatter laughter every time I see the ads. the Bluetooth keyboard, the Bluetooth mouse, and, drumroll please, the stand to prop the tablet up like a laptop! Hah! Talk about a portability nightmare now, not to mention how you have to set up all of those lame accessories every time you go to Starbucks. And the more pieces involved, the more prone you are to forgetting one or getting one stolen. I forgot to mention the added cost of each accessory. a laptop folds out and plugs right into the wall. Shazam.

And then there’s the whole price situation. to help supplement my argument here, I have copied and pasted a chat conversation I recently had with a lovely Verizon representative about the purpose of a tablet compared to a laptop from a financial standpoint:

Takeryia: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service.  May I help you with your order today?

You: Hi, price me out for a Galaxy Tab 10.1 on a 2-year contract, including the price of the tablet. what will I pay within the span of 2 years for the whole shebang?

You: Let’s do your highest data plan.

Takeryia: I will be happy to help you!!

Takeryia: Are you referring to data every month?

You: Yeah, I want to connect to the internet wherever I go.

You: Every month.

Takeryia: We offer the broadband data package for 2gb for $10, 5gb for $50, and 10gb for $80.

You: No unlimited?

Takeryia: I do apologize but we dont offer unlimited.

Takeryia: Hi, just checking in, how is everything going?

You: So, $2550 for a tablet over the course of 2 years with a plan that will give me 10 GB of data a month. Did you know that MacBook Pros start at $1200 for the 13-inch and $1800 for the 15-inch? what is the benefit of a tablet?

Takeryia: Hold for just a moment please.

Takeryia: The Galaxy tab is an awesome device with great features, very easy to use, great batter life, and very dependable.

You: But nowhere close to the power and versatility of a 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Takeryia: super speed, voice search, light weight.

Takeryia: You can always try the device 14 days and if you dont  like it you can return the device.

You: If I already have a 4G Verizon phone that can do everything a Tab can do, what is the benefit, aside from the bigger screen?

Takeryia: A tablet is more like a laptop.

Takeryia: Hi, just checking in, how is everything going?

You: I beg to differ. a laptop has a dedicated keyboard, much faster processing speeds, larger hard drive, higher quality programs like Photoshop, Quicktime, and Final cut, CD/DVD drive, regular sized USB ports, Firewire, and LAN for Internet. to name a few.

You: A tablet is a big phone that can’t make calls.

Takeryia: Would you like yo try the Galaxy out for 14 days and if you dont like it you can return it?

Takeryia: Hi, just checking in, how is everything going?

You: No thank you. You’ve been very helpful, Takeryia. I’m most likely going to pull the plug on a brand new 13-inch MacBook Pro. you have helped me greatly to come to this decision!

Takeryia: Your welcome!!!

Takeryia: Thank you for visiting Verizon Wireless, I look forward to speaking with you again.  Have a great day!

Your chat session has been ended by your Verizon Wireless online agent.

Now I know what you’re thinking. Just get a Wi-Fi tablet! Is it really worth dropping $600 on an Internet commodity when you have a perfectly equipped phone? Even if you don’t have a capable laptop, take that $600 and put it towards a nice laptop. $600-800 is a pretty penny waste away on a big phone that can’t make calls. not to mention the fact that a tablet is severely underpowered and under-equipped when compared to a laptop.

I will say this, though. Tablet technology can be ideal for various fixtures of industry, such as replacing airline manuals or serving as communication platforms within small businesses. I can also see the usefulness for someone who is constantly on the Internet all day and cannot rely on a 4.3-inch display to get the job done. Our very own Editor-in-Chief, Sean Aune is an iPad 2 guy, and I can completely understand why. Sean never sleeps, busting his keister all the live long day to make TechnoBuffalo breath the awesome fire that it breathes on a daily basis. however, if you’re one of the millions who have bought. or are considering buying, a tablet just so you can go check your Facebook at Startbucks, you have officially guzzled the purple Kool-Aid, and in my opinion, made a deplorable mistake.

In closing, just remember one thing: Pogs were cool once. for a little while.

TOP 10 iPhone 4 Productivity apps plus one more

In today’s busy and competitive world, it’s not about who’s smarter or more talented, it’s about who is more productive. It’s about who can get things done quicker without sacrificing quality.

Let’s face it, we all have things that needs to get done in a timely matter. whether the task at hand has to deal with business or whether it’s personal errands, there good ways to be productive, greats ways, and of course, really bad ways too. if your productivity stinks, don’t worry, you will get better.

With the huge volume of iPhone productivity apps coming every month its really hard to decide which app will fit your needs and especially when you don’t want to spend for an app which does exactly what a free version of other app does. Here are some of the most powerful  rather say the most useful productivity apps which will not only help you manage your work , note down things , control your timing ,remind you the most important things you need to do everyday but also stay ahead from others in every possible way.

The ReQall iPhone app does many things but it’s mainly focused on reminders. and it’s really good at organizing the reminders and helping you know what you need to do at the right time.

With ReQall you can make to-do lists, set appointments, and manage shopping lists with voice or text notes from your iphone. reQall will remind you of your tasks via text message, IM, email, calendar alert, or voice. You’ll need to call the reQall service to create your account, but once you do, you can add smart voice notes—reQall recognizes time, date, and other keywords—right from the app.

Evernote is probably one of the most popular and downloaded app. if you haven’t tried it yet you must be kidding.

Its one of the first apps I loaded onto my iPhone, Evernote lets you send written notes, photos (taken from both within the application and stored in your iPhone’s photo album), and voice memos to an online repository that you can access anywhere with a Web connection.

Remember the Milk is a full-featured task management on the go. Bonus features include the ability to swipe to complete tasks quickly, and sort task by priority, due date, or task name. while the download is free, you must have a RTM Pro account.

PageOnce personal comes with the ability to cull information about your bank accounts, credit card transactions, flight information, and updates in your various social networks. indeed, it’s one of our favorite finance apps across lots of platforms, particularly because its interface is so easy to use. while it doesn’t help you save or budget money the way its competitor Mint.com does, there’s no question it’s just as feature-rich, and that for many people it’s even easier to master.

Producteev’s solution connects email and tasks with a broad range of popular communication tools and seamlessly brings them into a user’s work environment, without requiring them to change their work preferences.

Producteev has put together a really slick and easy to use web application — but you don’t actually have to log into it at all, if you don’t want to. you can fully interact with Producteev using only your preferred communication tools, including email, Gtalk, Yahoo and Windows Messenger, AIM, ICQ, and Twitter, with more services planned and on community request. Producteev uses Facebook connect as well, which allows for extremely simple sign in.

Perfect for anyone who needs to track their time, TimeLogger, which costs $2.99, works even while other programs are running. you can also start multiple timers, adjust times, associate tasks with clients and categories, and create custom text or CSV reports of your logged time.

YPMobile puts searchable Yellow Pages listings right on your iPhone free of charge, saving you from having to lug the Yellow Pages around with you. in addition to searching for specific business names, YPMobile can also search by category: restaurant types, dry cleaners, barber shops, and the like.

Use your location to filter out results which are offered along with business phone number and address as well as user ratings. YPMobile can be used to plan your day by adding the listings to your day’s plan.

With Instapaper you can create offline versions of your favorite Web articles, allowing you to read them on your iPhone while you’re on an airplane, in the subway tunnel, or otherwise out of signal range.

Setup will require you to visit the instapaper’s website to create an account and get the read later bookmark. Also available in a pro version which is available for $9.99 and gives ability to adjust text readability with position-saving, tilt scrolling, and adjustable fonts.

For $9.99, eWallet, from Illium Software, offers password management with 256-bit AES encryption, and the ability to sync information to a PC. Store passwords, PIN numbers, user names, bank accounts, travel clubs, calling cards, health info, and travel club info.

eWallet bags a high volume of positive reviews from other users, so you get an app which is already tried and tested on multiple devices in multiple conditions without any bugs and security issues.

Bdrive is based on the Server-Client mechanism, where you can use your computer as a Server and another computer, phone or tablet as a client. The app is Free on iTunes App Store and makes use of the in-app purchases. The App has features called “apps” within the app which lets you control your computer from your very own iPhone in various possible ways. iPhone 5 & iPhone 4 News Reviews and Hd Wallpapers

You may remember Backbreaker, the iOS football arcade game series by developers NaturalMotion. That same company has now used its proprietary physics engine to put together a game called Icebreaker Hockey, which obviously takes on the sport that’s popular with our Canadian friends in the north.Just like Backbreaker, the game isn’t a straight hockey title, but rather plays like a concentrated version of hockey, with you controlling a player skating straight for the goal and having to juke around defenders and get your shot in when you can. It’s fun stuff, especially if you’re not too concerned about realism. There are a few different modes to play with, and full Game Center integration for leaderboards and achievements. The weather’s heating up outside, so the ice rink may seem like a thing of the past these days, but you can still get your skate on with this one. Icebreaker Hockey is just US$0.99 on the App Store right now.

Leaked iPhone 5 case signals ‘radical’ redesign

Apple’s fifth-generation iPhone will feature a thinner, tapered design, an edge-to-edge screen and maybe even a touch-only home button, according to a variety of leaked phone cases.

The relentless iPhone rumor mill cranked out another opaque morsel late this week with a series of leaked iPhone 5 case designs. (The device could also be called an iPhone 4S, or any other number of things, but we’re going to stick with iPhone 5 for simplicity’s sake.)

The first two leaks come via William Judd at UK site Mobile Fun, who received a CAD “design document” from a Chinese case manufacturer, and a case mock-up photo, both of which show a “radical evolution” of the iPhone design.

This drastic transformation includes a significantly larger screen, possibly 4 inches, up from the current 3.5-inch screen. As we’ve heard in the past, the screen extends across the entire front of the device, with little or no bezel on the sides. the top and bottom of the iPhone 5 still have bezels, though Judd says they have “been significantly reduced in size.”

As reported back in April, (and again in earlier this month) the fifth-generation iPhone will allegedly also feature a thinner, tapered “tear drop” design. This is backed up by the leaks to Mobile Fun. Judd writes that the “curvaceous” new iPhone has a backplate that “curves gently back around its edges, much like the iPhone 3G.”

The next iPhone will reportedly also do away with the physical home button and, according to Judd, replace it with a larger “touch-sensitive ovaloid area which takes up the middle half of the bottom border.” This area could also be used for multi-touch gestures, Judd suggests. the controls on the side of the device have been entirely repositioned, from the left to the right side of the device. Judd says it’s “possible” that the volume and lock buttons have been entirely replaced with touch controls.

All of this was further corroborated late yesterday by an actual leaked case, received by 9to5Mac. It’s not entirely clear that all the specs match up exactly, but they at least appear to, from what we can tell.

As always, this is entirely speculation, since Apple has not, will not, and will never answer questions about un-announced products. As Mark Gurman at 9to5Mac points out, it’s entirely possible (maybe even likely) that these Chinese-made case designs are based upon Apple prototypes — not final products — that reached the Asian manufacturing world, and have no bearing on what Apple will actually release. Regardless, all signs indicate that that release will come in September, so we’ll all just have to wait until then.

Sharing stories about creating apps for kids with iStoryTime founder Woody Sears – iPhone app article – Brad Spirrison

You don’t have to be a first or even second mover to understand how the iPhone and increasingly the iPad are changing the storytime experience for parents and their young children.

As a parent of a 17-month-old (our first!), I’ve been privileged to observe this transformation from multiple vantage points. And one of my favorite developers in the space is iStoryTime.

We first told you about iStoryTime last year after the company inked a deal with DreamWorks to develop a companion app to the computer-animated comedy How to Train your Dragon. Since then, iStoryTime has produced dozens of great children’s book apps around Hollywood franchises among other themes. this week iStoryTime released the official movie storybook for the just-released Smurfs movie.

In this edition of Meet the Makers, we check in with iStoryTime co-founder Woody Sears to discuss how he is taking advantage of seismic changes in the storybook space, the impact of a recent merger with a German-based children’s book app developer, and why he thinks commercial innovations like freemium apps are not yet suitable to his demographic.

Appolicious: describe what goes into creating a series of apps literally designed for two year olds.

Woody Sears: besides all the technology steps that goes into it, the main point is thinking like a two year old.

When we first came up with the product idea for mobile children’s books, we just watched how our youngest kids interacted with the iPhone. When we watched our kids, it was like a focus group in action, everything from where they placed their fingers, how they held the device. of course, we also kept parents in mind as we encourage as much parent-to-kid storytime as possible.

APPO: We are all seeing how smartphones and tablet computers are impacting early-stage reading and educational development. From your vantage point, what are the three biggest innovations in the space driven by touchscreen computing?

WS: First and foremost, it is the exploration that gets kids involved. they want to touch, push, explore, etc.

Secondly is the actual ability of the app… can it be a learning tool, does it have highlighting of text as the words are read? An audio and visual queue combination is essential and really allows for a child to enjoy, but more importantly, learn.

Thirdly, is interaction encouraged? We feel that, while good quality content is essential, how it is delivered is just as important. does the app offer the ability to have children not only read along, but help turn the pages, interact with the story, read it, digest it and learn from it. Literacy is an enormous part of our overall goal and we believe storytime is an essential learning tool.

APPO: Talk about your company. How old is it? How many employees? what are your primary sources of revenue?

WS: Our first app was launched in April of 2009 so I guess you could call us ‘veterans’ of the App Store. Earlier this year FrogDogMedia merged with a German children’s book app developer under the new company name of zuuka and our revenue is 100% from the development and distribution of mobile apps for children in the Education and Books categories. the majority of that revenue today is based on iOS apps as that is where the market is today. We have 19 employees in Frankfurt, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.

APPO: Approximately how many apps to you release each month and acrosshow many platforms?

WS: currently, we have over 100 titles in 80 different countries and are releasing 2-4 depending on the month. We have amazing storybook partners, which is why we’ve received several awards including PTPA Media’s Parent Tested Parent Approved Seal of Approval and the Children’s Technology Review’s Editor’s Choice Award. For instance, we released Transformers Mix & Match and Ben 10 Triple Threat apps this month and have several very lovable character-driven apps in the coming weeks.

Most of our apps are available on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad as well as our Kung Fu Panda 2 storybook recently made available on the new HP TouchPad for their new webOS platform. this week we’ll launch “The Smurfs Movie Storybook” in four languages, including English, German, French and Spanish just ahead of the movie launch which is the only place you can get the story from beginning to end with actual audio and images from the movie.

APPO: as a developer that is very active on iOS and Android, describe both the technical and marketing challenges and opportunities that exist on each platform.

WS: It seams as if everyone has an iPhone so marketing for that platform has been very productive. And now with the iPad becoming a storytime tool of choice, we’re happy to be marketing there as well. However, we see a lot of upside in the Android and webOS platforms and it’s just a mater of time before our app are available on all platforms.

APPO: You are blessed to have several significant distribution partners in the entertainment space. describe how you collaborate with them to drive downloads?

WS: Yes, you’re right. We’ve worked very hard to provide a quality storytime experience, and we know that quality is the key to a great relationship with our partners. they know they’re getting an app that is both entertaining as well as useful as an educational tool with literacy so they’re very interested in providing us with as much support as possible. Whether it be working together on social platforms such as Facebook or Twitter, they’re very helpful.

APPO: How else do you drive downloads, both upon launch and over time?

WS: We find that it starts months before the actual launch when we work with our partners, be it the studio, PR consultant, community outreach specialist, etc. We have a very thorough methodology in place that looks at all angles of a storybook’s quality for getting featured by review sites and Apple. We also have worked very hard to create a sense of community with our media friends. while yes, we want to drive downloads, our goal is to create value as we know most of the media we work with are parents so we engage with them on a personal level. We are also very active with our Facebook and Twitter communities. Engaging conversation, creating relationships and providing value are the keys to success.

APPO: what are the three biggest things going on today in the mobile space that are keeping you up at night?

WS: I often thing about the freemium or ad revenue apps and how well those are doing, but it is a challenge with our demographic. We don’t want to take the child away from the experience of the app or the storytelling with ads or upgrades so we’ve come up with some ways that are non-intrusive but I think we can keep refining that program. For the most part, our apps are paid, full-feature apps and we feel that offers a great parent/child experience.

Secondly, I think about all of the platforms and tools to deliver content to make sure we are ahead of the game, specifically HTML5 and the potential impact that could have.

Last night though, it was my 10 month old son, the youngest of three kids who is normally a good sleeper who was awake from 1am to 4am and my wife and I were taking turns comforting him.

Solar Charger For an iPhone With Mojo

Sometimes, we get carried away when we are on our iPhone. There are too many applications we can use such as games, trackers, internet, and many more that we tend to over use it and end up draining our batteries. and when the time comes that we need to call someone or text someone, we cannot anymore because we have no batteries to do this; no matter how important the call or text may be we are hopeless. but of course, I am not here to tell you, readers that we are hopeless regarding this matter. I am actually here to present to you the best solution ever discovered to address our dilemmas of empty batteries; the solar charger for iPhone. amazing isn’t it? There is a charger that actually works when exposed to the sun.

Solar chargers for iPhone are very light and small. these chargers were made like this so we can use it wherever we are without being hassled of the weight and the size of it. it is that small and light weight that is can be compared to a mini compact powder mirror or small triangular shaped device. it is designed that way so it will be very convenient for the users.

Not only can solar chargers charge iPhone but it is also compatible with other devices as well. The inventors sure are smart to come up with a solar charger that can charge more than one device. these devices specifically are cell phones, laptops or notebooks, cars, iPods. but remember that some solar iPhone chargers are made for a specific device only so if you plan to charge other devices with your solar phone charger, consult with the sales person where you are buying to make sure that the solar charger is compatible with the different devices you are planning to charge. in addition to that, the connectors also differ per device so make sure also that you have the right connector for the device.

Using the solar iPhone charger is very easy. all you have to is plug it onto the phone you are charging, face the charger against the sunlight and wait till it starts to charge. in order to maximize the charging capacity of the solar charger, make sure that the entire surface of the charger is exposed to the sun or the sunlight. this will take you about one to two hours in order for your battery to charge, but not full. The downfall of this solar charger is of course, it cannot work at night. Since it is called solar, it will only function during the day. make sure you charge your iPhone before it gets dark or you will not be able to charge it at all as soon as the sun is out.

Apple could be building a budget Iphone

WHILE PUNTERS are laying down bets on the Iphone 5 launch date, rumours of a budget Iphone are gaining some credibility, the sort of credibility that comes from a COO and a CFO sitting down with an analyst to get the story straight.

According to Appleinsider, Apple’s COO and CFO, Tim Cook and Peter Oppenheimer, respectively, had a sit-down with an analyst from RBC Capital Markets, Mike Abramsky, and discussed how a budget Iphone might work out. But of course, we’re sure the word ‘budget’ never crossed anyone’s lips.

Instead, the analyst paraphrases the executives and he describes such a chimera as an “innovative, category-killer experience”. In other words, Apple neither confirmed nor denied plans for such a device, the executives only made it clear that a lot of thought had gone into the plans for marketing one.

The internet has been rife with speculation about a ‘budget’ Iphone for the Chinese market, one that would breach the pre-paid phone market without breaking the bank, yet still carry the famous fruit logo on its backside. The name of such a device has shown up as 4S or 4GS, at some web sites, although everyone admits it’s just a placeholder for such a device if one ever actually tips up.

To be honest, Iphone contracts in the USA are relatively affordable compared to the rest of the world. In the UK they are still affordable, but less so than in the US. In the rest of the world, including the remainder of Europe, it just isn’t cheap – data plans are still expensive and the levels of subsidisation are much lower. You’ll simply pay through the nose for the privilege of having an Apple smartphone toy. The Chinese market, is, naturally, more price-sensitive than the western world, and according to the analyst, still relies very much on pay as you go, making it the prime target for Apple’s attentions.

We’d like to point out that this has nothing to do with the flood of cheap Android devices that has soaked the european market up to its eyeballs. The facts that Android’s share of the market has continued to gain on IOS and Apple is seeing revenues it can’t access – the low-cost, prepaid handset kind – might be causing a change of heart in cappuccino-ville.

So just in case it does happen, you now know that it’ll be ‘innovative’ and a ‘category-killer experience’. µ
