Google Android 2.2 release date and specs

As the Google I/O conference commenced earlier this month, there was debate going around as to which operating system would prove to be superior when the much heralded Apple iPhone 4.0 went up against the upcoming Android 2.2, code name Froyo!  After all 2.2 had been kept pretty much under wraps until the higher ups at Google decided to officially announced its existence at the Google I/O conference.  After the announcement, their were some demonstrations and a few lucky conference goers got to test out this new Android 2.2.  The consensus?  Watch out Apple!

Is it the reinvention of the wheel?  Not hardly, but it certainly might go a long way in dealing with some problems that have been persistent in the industry.  Now let us understand that not everything about this Froyo was given away at the conference.  There will certainly be some other things in store, but at least we do have knowledge of some aspects of the operating system and early reports are astounding.

So what is being targeted for receiving the 2.2 at this point.  Well we know for a fact now that the Nexus One is already receiving the new operating system, which is being distributed to these existing phones over the air.  If you’re an owner of a Nexus One and have not received it, it can also be secured via download from the website.  You have to assume other models in the family will not be far behind, but at this point the company has not been forthcoming with a date for things such as the HTC.  When will it actually be released in mass?  Best guess seems to be some time in June giving announcements at the conference that Android 2.2 would be out in a few weeks.

You may be asking yourself, “Why is this Android 2.2 going to be so much better than iPhone 4.0?”  Well early tests and demos seem to show that the Android is testing far above the iPhone in a number of areas.  Let us take a look at the speed factor for one.  Early reports from Google are showing that with the 2.2 loaded on a phone, their seems to be a speed increase of anywhere from 2 – 5x than that of existing technology.  However many believe that Google is being modest and that the new speed numbers are actually closer to 4 – 5x!  That is just flying.  Gone are the days when you wait for a browser window to load up or yawn as you switch pages while on your phone.  In fact some demonstrations at the conference showed

Spread Some Charity with iPhone

These four apps allow you to spread some goodness in everything from finding missing persons to helping make poverty history. All you need to do is invest a bit of your time and make a difference with these apps.

CauseWorld

CauseWorld is a geo location app that allows you to virtually check in to locations around you and earn karma points that you can cash in for donations to charities. You can perform good deeds and earn karma points just by walking into stores. Sponsors like Citibank, Kraft Foods and Proctor and Gamble donate money for your check ins. Additionally, you can also earn karma points by scanning the barcodes of certain products, and downloading some associated iPhone applications, both paid and free. CauseWorld offers you 10 ways to donate your karma points and you can choose where your money is going. You can either donate to Chilean relief efforts, poverty in Africa, chimpanzee habitats, cancer research, education, or to some other deserving causes listed in the app. So, next time you check in somewhere it might as well count for something noble. (Price: Free)

The Extraordinaries

The Extraordinaries app connects volunteers with nonprofit organizations and corporations that allow them to perform online volunteering that makes a difference in the world. Launching this app lets you do micro volunteering right from your iPhone. For instance, during the Haiti earthquake you could open this app and help identify missing people from the photos. It’s an extraordinary app that inspires people to do actual hands-on charity. However, this iPhone app for charity hasn’t gotten a lot of recognition due to the fact that it has been said that those who are interested in charity don’t actually own an iPhone. But you can change this situation! (Price: Free)

Give Work

The Give Work app is designed to support refugees in developing countries. This strange little app asks you to perform one task on your iPhone, and a refugee in a developing region does the same. Then your refugee partner gets paid for both tasks or the money goes towards their training. It’s a novel initiation by an organization called Samasource that works with refugees by providing them with life changing opportunities via the Internet.

The tasks that you are asked to perform can either be data entry, Internet research, book digitization, business listings verification, video captioning or audio transcription. In return for every task that you complete, you support refugees by either generating income for their training or by developing or designing future training programs. The refugees can also trade in the points that you have created with each task. It’s a great way of helping the needy refugees and definitely worth your time. (Price: Free)

Make Poverty History

The Make Poverty History app actually doesn’t do much. You must have seen people wear bracelets to support a cause; well this app basically does this. The white bracelet with words Make Poverty History can be purchased just for $0.99 as your iPhone’s background. 100 percent of the profits that come from this app go to charity. If every iPhone owner downloads this app, it would definitely do a lot of good towards making poverty history.

If you know of any other iPhone apps for charities that are worth a look then please post a comment.

textPlus Among Apple’s "All Time Most Popular" Apps

Marina del Rey, Calif. (PRWEB) January 26, 2011

Enormously popular social messaging app textPlus topped hundreds of thousands of mobile applications to take the #36 spot on Apple’s list of the all time most popular free iTunes apps. textPlus was the only social text messaging app to appear in the top forty.

"We got here early and built a passionate following," said Scott Lahman, CEO of GOGII, creator of textPlus. "textPlus’s standing among top apps like Facebook, Skype and Yelp on this list is proof that demand for mobile social messaging has really intensified. We’re excited to see our ‘all time’ hall-of-fame popularity carved in stone like this by Apple."

textPlus has turned group texting into a social phenomenon through its highly popular topic-driven texting Communities, as well as the app’s "search" feature, which help users find one another and connect in the app. Photo sharing has proven popular as well, with Face Text allowing users to take and send new photos with each press of the "send" button.

textPlus launched in 2009 to become the leader in social text messaging: its network includes smartphones and feature phones to span over 34 million users. Available on all iDevices and Android phones, textPlus has been downloaded 12.5 million times, has sent over 6 billion messages and adds on average about 70 thousand new users per day.

Lahman adds: "We’re working hard to develop even more of the social messaging features people want on their phones — and look forward to climbing even higher on Apple’s all-time list."

About textPlus

textPlus brings free, ad-supported real, group and Community texting to the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and Android phones through both its mobile application, and permanent short code, 60611 and real phone numbers. textPlus is carrier and Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) compliant and enables seamless interaction between app users and their friends using regular text messaging (SMS).

Iphone 5 – Too Little Too Late?

In case you’re Amish or have been living in a cave for the last few months, September 12 was the release date for the new Apple Iphone 5. Now that the phone and it’s features have been announced, it’s time to look at the newest Iphone next to it’s closest competitors and see how it stacks up. Luckily for Apple, they could produce a paper weight with a glowing piece of fruit on it and fan boys would line up around the block for it all the same.

How Does The Iphone Stack Up Against It’s Closest Competitor?

The newest Iphone comes with an impressive spec sheet, It’s faster, thinner and has a better camera than it’s predecessor. Apple has finally stopped telling it’s customers how big they want their smart phone screen to be and started listening to what consumers actually want. The Iphone 5 sports a large 4″ display that is still a far cry from the 4.8″ offered by Samsung on the S3. Apple has long-maintained that 3.5″ is the ideal screen size and that consumers would not want anything larger. I’m sure they would argue that everybody changed their mind the night before the Iphone 5 was released.

Comparing iPhone 4 with the HTC EVO 4G

The smartphone industry is on the rise featuring high quality calls and superb multimedia characteristics all in one device. Two of the leader companies, Apple and Sprint, have sharpened their knives producing two of the most popular and innovative devices. Since its official release in June 4, 2010, the HTC EVO 4G has been characterized as a true ‘iPhone killer’. But that was before Apple’s official presentation of the iPhone4. The gloves are off and the battle has just begun.

1. Display

The HTC EVO 4G features a massive 4.3’wide screen multitouch display. Its powerful OS and QSD8650 1GHz Snapdragon CPU enables you to watch videos, movies and photos in High Definition analysis. Even the web browsing experience is enhanced as its 800×480 pixel resolution allows you to zoom texts without blurring. Moreover, email and text messaging is easier than ever; the HTC EVO 4G offers large character boxes minimizing effectively typos.

But Apple has the last word. Even though the iPhone retains screen size to 3.5’, it now features an upgraded resolution analysis up to 960 x # pixels per inch) and a contrast ratio of 800:1. The smaller screen size combined with the enhanced analysis delivers an unforgettable experience. Additionally, the Virtual Retinal Display (VRD) technology offers clear images, texts and video browsing eliminating pixels. Furthermore, Apple is the first manufacturer company integrating the IPS technology (previously featured in iPad) into a smartphone. With IPS, you can now view crystal clear images at any angle without blurring and shadows.

2. Processor

Both devices feature a powerful processor allowing multitasking without freezing or slowing down their overall performance. The iPhone4 has the same 1GHz Apple A4 chip as the iPad for enhanced capabilities such as multitasking, FaceTime, gaming, web browsing, video and photo editing. The A4 chip also significantly increases battery time up to 7 hours talk time and 6 hours of web browsing and multimedia applications. The HTC EVO 4G dominate QSD8650 1GHz Snapdragon CPU also offers the ultimate quality performance and reliability.  Multitasking is available and web pages are loading faster than in any other smartphone. The HTC talk time is estimated to 6 hours and 5.5 on 4G.

3. Operating System

Apple iOS4 is a killing update so far. Able to support multitasking, wallpapers, folders for your apps, iMovie video editing software, gyroscope, accelerometer, iBooks,
