How to Set the Clock on My iPhone

When you activate your Apple iPhone, you can set the date and time to automatically reflect the information reported by your cellular network. However, if you need to manually configure the clock on your iPhone, use the following steps to adjust the settings. You can add multiple clocks on an Apple iPhone to show the time zones in several major cities anywhere in the world.

Setting The Date and Time On Your Apple iPhone

Step 1

Press and hold the “Sleep/Wake” button on the side of your iPhone to turn it on. Before you adjust the date and time or clock on your iPhone, make certain that it is fully charged. Check the battery level shown near the top and on the right side of the screen to determine if your iPhone needs recharging.

Step 2

Tap the “Settings” button on your iPhone’s home screen and then tap “General.” Use your finger to scroll down the screen and tap “Date & Time” to adjust the settings.

Step 3

Turn “Set Automatically” to “OFF” to disable the feature if it is turned on. Next, you should see several fields for setting the time zone, date and time. Tap the “Time Zone” field, and enter the name of the city or country on the virtual keyboard. The time zone will automatically be shown for the city or country that you want to see on your iPhone.

Step 4

Tap the “Date” button to display the date selection wheel. Use your finger to move the wheel up or down to display the month that you want to set. Select the day of the month and the year.

Step 5

Tap the “Time” button to display the time selection wheel, and set the hour, minutes, AM or PM. Tap the “Date & Time” button when you’re finished.

Adding and Viewing Multiple Clocks On Your Apple iPhone

Step 1

Tap the “World Clock” button on your iPhone’s home screen. Then, enter the name of a city on the virtual keyboard that you want to see. The city that you typed will appear on the screen.

Step 2

Tap the city to add a clock for that city. In some cases, you may not see the city that you’re searching for and you will need to type a major city name that is in the same time zone.

Step 3

Tap the “World Clock” button again to view the time for a city. If the clock face color is white, it is daytime in the city that you’re viewing. If the clock face color is black, it is nighttime in that city.

Step 4

Tap “World Clock” then tap the “Edit” option if you want to move the clock to a new location on your iPhone. Use your finger to drag the clock to a new place.

Step 5

Tap “World Clock” and tap the “Edit” option again if you want to delete a clock that is displayed on your iPhone. Tap next to the clock that you want to remove and tap “Delete.”

How the IPhone 4 Beats Android

Use the following guide to find out the ways that Apple’s iPhone OS is winning the race against Goggle’s Android.

With the new Apple iPhone 4 and Google Android operating systems in close competition to win over the public, it can be confusing to know which is best at what. While it can often come down to individual user habits and preferences, mobile gadget gurus have tested the two rivals and made some interesting comparisons.

Both types of operating system have their strengths and weaknesses, plus depending on the testing criteria there are times where both reach a tie as equals. Since both companies are consistently releasing advancements and upgrades which allow for a host of exciting features to excite users, no-one definitively knows however which competitor will end up winning the race.

The following guide outlines the key areas that Apple’s latest iPhone 4 star is said to outshine Google’s Android wonder.

Fuss-free Navigation

Users report that it’s easy to pick up any iPhone and quickly understand what’s what without any fuss. iPhones have one main button at the front of the handset, which allows you to simply tap app icons from the home screen. Android devices in comparison have several buttons on the front of the device that perform a range of different functions and ways of doing things from the home screen, not to mention that this is further complicated by the fact that different Android model designs are released by a range of manufacturers.

Varied Data App Synchronisation

If you’re an intensive user of applications such as Address Book, Outlook or iTunes, an iPhone will be your best bet for easy synchronisation with them. Android is great at seamlessly syncing with Google’s servers, but not as happy to tie in with other popular sources of data.

Gaming

If you’re a hardcore gamer, you will certainly at this point choose the latest iPhone 4 over an Android mobile ? while the Android gaming market is without a doubt steadily growing, Apple is currently still on top in this area.

Music

iPhones come standard with the sound and trusted iPod app for their media player capabilities. In contrast, one of the regular complaints about Android is their default media player, which many users will want to find an alternative replacement for. Thus, if you use your mobile alot for music, the iPhone is at present still the winner.

Consistency of Releases and Updates

To make the most of your mobile phone, its operating system is crucial. Apple has raised the bar on this to give users the expectation of regular new feature updates even if it isn’t the latest iPhone 4. The company releases one new phone and one major update each year, plus when an update is released it rolls out to every iPhone at the same time (there are exceptions such as for example the original iPhone won’t upgrade to iOS4). Android in comparison runs on a wide range of different devices, with the result being that when Google releases a new update there’s no telling when or if it’s going to make its way to your particular phone.

Battery Longevity

Apple has shown that it has made convenient battery life a priority with its iPhones, particularly with the new iPhone 4 ? in most cases it beats Android devices in this category. While Android lovers might say that this is an acceptable trade-off for the wealth of features and apps that Android phones can offer, if battery performance is crucial to you then the iPhone 4 is a reliable winner.

Conclusion

The above guide gives you the main ways in which your iPhone 4 is leading the race against Google’s Android technology. The competition between the two operating systems is constantly in flux however, which is great for us as consumers since it keeps both companies on their toes and hungry to win the biggest share of the mobile marketplace by offering the most cutting edge features and improvements possible.

Steve Jobs Developed Apple iPhone 5 Until the End

Steve Jobs worked actively on future product plans for Apple right up until the day he died, new reports show. According to business partner Masayoshi Son, he had “one more thing” in store for us before he was ready for the end.”

The product he worked on was likely the iPhone 5, which could come out sometime in 2012. He devoted much of his remaining time this year to developing Apple’s next-generation smartphone, according to reports and a story from Son.

“I visited Apple for the announcement of the iPhone 4S [at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California],” Son told PC Magazine. “When I was having a meeting with Tim Cook, he said, ‘Oh Masa, sorry I have to quit our meeting.’ I said, ‘Where are you going?’ He said, ‘My boss [Steve Jobs] is calling me.’ That was the day of the announcement of the iPhone 4S. He said that Steve is calling me because he wants to talk about their next product. And the next day, he died.”

If it’s true that the iPhone 5 is the last Apple product Steve Jobs worked on, it will be one of the most highly anticipated and in-demand products the company has ever put out. And that is a major statement, considering Apple’s place in the tech world. The idea of his imprint being on the product, right up until his untimely passing, is already the stuff of legend.

Best GPS App for iPhone

“冬夜萬物寧 金輝獨詠春” / 寧 Serenity / SML.20130208.7D.21344

With so many choices to choose from, many people wonder which is the best GPS app for using on an iPhone. This article will tell you about some of them.

With the help of the GPS app that you can find in the market, the need for Personal Navigation Devices (PND), or handheld devices, is slowly declining. Garmin and TomTom are the two most popular brands for GPS devices, but their market is dwindling dangerously, thanks to the amazing flexibility that the Apple iPhone provides.

iPhone apps are available to users from the official Apple Store, and from this store they can choose from more than 200,000 apps. Additionally, there are many more Cydia applications to choose from as well. The utility of the iPhone can be enhanced drastically with the help of these apps, and GPS and navigation is one of the first categories that people look for.

What is GPS

GPS is the abbreviation for Global Positioning System, and this is a system of satellites that tell a user his/her exact location, along with other directional and navigational details. Though the satellites have been put in place by the US Government, anyone with a GPS navigation receiver can use these satellites today. All newly manufactured mobile phones in the market today come pre-attached with a GPS receiver, so this is not a problem for the iPhone.

A GPS tool can help you get directions to any place you wish to go, from your current location. This is a system that works in all weather conditions, so there are no limitations. As long as the GPS receiver can get a signal from at least 4 satellites, it will be able to give you accurate directions. The app takes advantage of this fact, and offers a truly marvelous service.

Best iPhone GPS Apps

Apple ensures that the developers of apps go through a stringent list of rules and guidelines, so you can be assured that if it is available in the Apple Store, it will be extremely useful. Apple does not pride itself on selling useless apps, so there is something for everyone in this database. Here are some of the candidates.

Application Purpose of the Application MobileNavigator This is Navigon’s iPhone GPS app, and it is easily the most powerful one. Magellan RoadMate This is developed by Magellan, and offers various features like text to speech, 3D buildings and lane assistance as well. iGo My Way This one also has European versions, and its 3D rendering is the best in the market. Mobile Maps America This will provide you with very accurate turn by turn directions at every step. TomTom for iPhone TomTom has embraced the mobile market with this super elite app they have developed for the iOS. CoPilot Live This provides all the desirable features at a very affordable price. G-Map U.S. East The maps displayed by this app are as good as the ones that appear on Garmin devices, and the best part is that you will only pay for the areas that you intend to visit. G-Map U.S. West Same as the G-Map U.S. East, but it is applicable for the Western states in the US. MapQuest 4 Mobile This could easily be the best simply because it offers all the features you want, and it is completely free. MotionX In spite of its price, this app tops the download charts because it allows you to integrate Facebook into it as well. It is the top choice for hiking and other outdoor activities. The utility of the GPS app is that it not only offers you directions about where you need to go, it will also tell you where you are if you are lost. Moreover, if you are looking for a specific restaurant or shop or hotel nearby to where you are, this app will get it listed for you with ultimate ease. Remember that some of these are quite expensive, but the advantages that they offer are unmatched, so this high price is completely worth it.

iPhone 4S – Impressive Update

A new and improved iPhone 4, this is the best way to describe the iPhone 4S. I am sure that by now you’re over the fact that this is not the iPhone 5. And I am also sure that by now, you’ve grown to love the impressive update of the iPhone 4.

So what made you love it? I know a couple of reasons that I am sure you will agree with me. The refreshed iPhone comes with a faster processor. It also comes in with an impressive virtual assistant called Siri. The fact that its camera is upgraded to 8MP, I know that you love it more than its predecessor. What is more, it comes with a power-packed dual-core processor. According to iPhone 4S users and Apple, this is the best iPhone to date.

When it comes to the phone’s exterior design, you can’t help but notice that it bears the familiar design of the iPhone 4. Back in 2010 (release of the iPhone 4), everybody loved its different and new design. The front glass, exposed screws, and stainless steel body simply watered everyone’s mouth. It was successful that Apple decided to keep the same design on this handset. You will notice that it was tweaked a bit.

This handset will feel like a finely crafted piece of gadget. It is smooth and simply nice to grasp. This is the same trait that you loved on the 4th generation iPhone. You will also notice that it was increased to 140 grams. The older iPhone 4 comes in at 137 grams only. You will also notice that some of the controls have been placed differently.

It comes with a feature that allows it to instantly switch between its exterior antennas. This is also true even if you are in a middle of a phone conversation. Its powerful and new brain (A5 dual-core chip) makes it faster than its predecessor. The available storage has been doubled as well. You will also notice major changes when it comes to the phone’s wireless network support.

It kept the same 3.5″ 960 x 640 Retina display. If you have a rather moderately proportioned hand, then the size of the iPhone 4S is ideal for you. It may not have a bigger screen like the Samsung Galaxy S2’s, but it is able to do its job when it matters the most.

There are many new features that you will find pleasurable on this handset. This is truly and impressive update of the iPhone 4.

Pros and Cons of the iPhone 5

The iPhone 5, the latest Apple product, is regarded as ‘the thinnest, lightest, fastest iPhone ever’. Though Apple states quite a lot of stunning features of the phone on their website, there are naturally a few cons associated with it. All of those who are interested in purchasing an iPhone 5 would really want to find out if the features are worth the hefty price tag or not.

There is a really impressive way to solve this problem. You can get all the amazing features you like without having to pay the high price. The solution lies in buying a used Apple iPhone 5. Since the iPhone 5 has not been in the market very long, the used iPhone will probably as good as new.

The pros and cons of iPhone 5 can help you decide which option is better: purchasing a brand new iPhone 5 or buying a used Apple iPhone 5.

Pros

Screen

The iPhone 5 screen is 4 inches which is the biggest size when compared to all previous models in the iPhone line. This may be smaller than other competing manufacturers but the resolution and the display quality is incomparable to any other screen.

4G LTE

As of now, 4G networks are characterized by the fastest data speeds. LTE is the communication standard used for 4G. The iPhone supports 4G LTE communication which makes it really speedy.

Battery Life

The most notable con of previous iPhones is the weak battery life. iPhone 5’s battery life is much better than all previous models, and can last for hours even if Wi-Fi is on.

Processor

iPhone 5 features an A6 chip, which really improves the phone’s speed. If you are a gaming addict, you will like this new addition.

Cons

iOS 6

iPhone 5 uses iOS 6, which is marked by new features such as an improved Siri, 3D maps and turn – by -turn navigation. However, you can easily upgrade your iPhone 4S to the same operating system and that too for free. Even if you do not have an iPhone 4S, most of the features of the new OS are still found in other recent models of the iPhone and iPad. If you are fine with this, then you can skip purchasing a new model or buying a used Apple iPhone 5.

4G LTE

Though 4G was mentioned in the pros, it comes with a disadvantage as well. If you do not travel frequently, then you might not need the high speeds. You have to pay an extra price for this feature so there is no reason for buying a used Apple iPhone 5 or a new one when you will not utilize it to the fullest. Secondly, 4G is available in limited regions so you might be able to use it.

Design

iPhone 5 is the newest Apple product, but the design is not. It is very close in appearance to iPhone 4/4S, which set new design standards at their launch.

Can I Put Apple’s iPhone4S Siri Features on My Regular iPhone 4?

You are probably wondering if you can get Siri voice command on your regular iPhone 4 rather than upgrading to an iPhone 4S, especially considering the reality that the 4S has sold out, waiting lists grow, and you were not in the long-line on opening day to get yours.

There was an interesting article in Technorati recently titled “Apple In Trouble: Hackers Successfully Ported Siri to the iPhone 4” by Salman Khan published on October 15, 2011. The article stated:

“Siri is Apple’s new innovation and creativity. It’s a new application added for iPhone 4s and a new way to control the iPhone with voice commands. Siri takes voice commands, you can ask Siri anything you want. Two Days earlier, the Apple Dev Team announced that porting Siri to the iPhone 4, can’t port Siri without stealing some copyrighted files from the iPhone 4s. “The unique selling point of iPhone 4s is Siri and has a processor that’s 2X’s faster than the iPhone 4. If developers can exploit or hack Siri and place it on the iPhone 4, it could reduce the sale of 4S.”

This tells me that Siri is basically an APP, not a new feature or technological breakthrough, just software, and if it runs on the so-called slower processor, then why does one need a 4S phone for something like that? It appears that Apple may have over-embellished the hype once again, in order to stay on the hyperbolic inflection point turn-off to keep redlining revenues. Apparently, Apple sold 1 million iPhone 4S models on the first day and 4 million over the first weekend.

In fact, there were wide spread outages on the “set-up” servers for those registering their new 4S phones, as no company has ever sold that many handsets in a day or weekend. The Wall Street Journal reported this in an article titled; “Softbank Server Glitch Damps iPhone 4S Launch,” published on October 14, 2011 – the day the Apple 4S iPhones became available. MacRumors Online also had an article; “AT&T Activation Servers Overloaded with iPhone 4S Launch,” also on October 14, by Arnold Kim.

Okay so, Apple’s big announcement coinciding with Steve Jobs death had everyone waiting in line at Apple Stores across the nation for the iPhone 4S with an abundance of fanfare, but when iPhone users discover that they could have merely added an APP and thus, had the Siri features anyway, it will turn off many, even highly-sophisticated brand loyalists.

Now then, the company will most likely tell us that without the iPhone 4S processing speed, the Siri system won’t work as well – which may be true since voice software is a processing hog, but will that explanation be enough to satisfy the iPhone 4S upgraders who spent big bucks to stay on the leading edge of Apple’s technology, or will they be completely turned off and feel burned?

Well, to answer the question, yes, you can get Siri on your regular iPhone 4 and there should be instructions online on how to do this, which may or may not void your iPhone 4 warranty, and it may not work 100% as good as it might on the iPhone 4S or maybe it will, that remains a question. Still, I ask, why didn’t Apple merely allow Siri as an APP or a software upgrade for a small one-time price, rather than using it as a reason to buy a newer model? Does Apple think everyone is stupid, that we are all dumb consumers serving their will? Maybe we are, maybe Apple is right, you decide. Please consider all this.

*In full-disclosure – this author owns NO Apple Products, and is not a brand loyalist of Apple, and believes their products are overpriced, over-hyped, and too trendy.

iPhone, iPad Theft Causes Crime Increase in NYC

There has been an increase in reported crime in New York City, mostly associated with iPhone and iPad thefts, according to a NY Times report.

The same report claims that the New York Police Department recorded 3,484 more crimes than for the same period last year. New York mayor Michael Bloomberg is pointing to thefts of iPhones and iPads as the cause of the increase in the city’s annual crime index.

Michael Grynbaum of the New York Times quotes Marc La Vorgna, the mayor’s press secretary, as saying "If you just took away the jump in Apple, we’d be down for the year."

Meanwhile, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg advised New Yorkers to keep their valuable Apple devices more secret and more safe. The mayor was quoted, as saying "Put it in a pocket in sort of a more body-fitting, tighter clothes, that you can feel if it was — if somebody put their hand in your pocket, not just an outside coat pocket."

The increase in Apple-related crimes in the Big Apple was 3,890, or a 3.3 percent part of the overall crime rate for 2012 at NYC, according to the New York Times report.

How To Increase Your iPhone Ringer Volume

It can be very frustrating when you miss a call on your cell phone, particularly if the reason you missed it was because the ringer volume on your phone was too low to hear. If you’re expecting an important call it is essential that you don’t miss them. If you have an iPhone you may have experienced a low ringer volume. Surely a cell phone as sophisticated as the iPhone should expect it to let you know properly when you have an incoming call so you don’t miss it. This can happen due to the iPhone having a lower than usual ringer volume but what can be done to improve it?

A common assumption that people make is that the iPhone has such a low ringer volume because it has small speakers. While this might seem to make sense it is not the actual reason for the low ringer volume. The main cause for the low ringer volume is actually the volume levels of the ringtones that are shipped with the iPhone. By replacing those ringtones with your own ringtones you should be able to hear the ringer more clearly.

The default ringtones are recorded at a low frequency which is why they sound so quiet. If you want to hear them more clearly then you will need to find a ringtone that is of a higher frequency. If you own an Apple Mac you can use the Garage Band application and find a new ringtone in there. One of the best ringtones you could use from Garage Band is the sound clip name “Cell Phone Ringing”.

Getting this sound clip onto your iPhone can be a little tricky. You will need to run iFuntastic which is an Intel Mac application. For Windows users you can use either iBrickr or iPhoneRingToneMaker. All of these applications allow you to copy ringtones from your computer to your iPhone which will give you a much improved ringer volume.

When selecting a ringtone you should pick one that is naturally loud. A louder ringtone will be more easy to hear when your phone rings and you will no longer miss calls because you didn’t hear it ringing. With a device as powerful as the iPhone you want to enjoy it to its fullest and fixing the low ringer volume should greatly improve your enjoyment.

Why an iPhone Keeps Freezing Up

Waving Goodbye

Here’s a look at why an iPhone might keep freezing up, and what you can do to fix the issue.

Space Problems – No, not like NASA-style space problems. Since the iPhone is essentially a mini-computer, it needs a certain amount of free space to operate correctly, and many iPhone owners aren’t aware of this fact. You should keep about 1-2 gigabytes of space free on your iPhone at all times. It’s good practice that will avoid some freezes and crashes, especially on iPhones with a lot of installed Apps (the apps may draw on temporary space that the iPhone has).

Installed App Issues – Newly installed apps may wreak a bit of havoc with the iPhone, so be sure to reset your iPhone occasionally to give apps a chance to finish installing. This will fix quite a lot of freezing that’s caused by those third party apps, especially the larger apps, which tend to be more complex and use more of the iPhone’s computing resources. To reset your iPhone, completely power it down by holding the top button and waiting for the option to “Slide to Power Off” comes up. Turn off the iPhone, then hit that button on the top for a few more seconds to restart the iPhone.

More Serious Problems – If an iPhone repeatedly freezes, and you’ve reset it and you’re keeping some space free, consider that you may need to call in your warranty or at least call Apple support to get some idea of whether you’re having a common issue. You can also try re-installing your iPhone’s software completely, which you can do by plugging the iPhone into your computer and WHILE holding down the home button until a message appears saying that the iPhone’s in recovery mode.

Recovery mode will allow you to completely reinstall the operating system and software of the iPhone, which can fix a lot of the more dire issues. If you use your iPhone pretty responsibly, usually it won’t come to this, so be aware of whether your warranty’s intact, and if necessary, use it! There’s no sense in sticking with an iPhone that keeps freezing when you can get a replacement or a repair without a charge, and if you go to an AT&T store you can often get another phone to use in the interim until your repair’s completed.
