Ever wanted to have only the apps that you choose on your iPhone? If like me, you know you’ll never use half of the default apps, here are solutions to hide the apps you don’t want with the option to return them to your screen at any time.
iPhones by factory design are programmed with certain apps which people like me will almost never use. For instance I know I’ll never use the Stocks and rarely the Weather App, yet we’re unable to delete them, so rather than have them looking up at you expectantly each time you unlock your screen why not just hide them completely? If you’ve been wondering "Can you hide iPhone apps?" the answer is yes. Here are two apps which allow you to do just that.
SBSettings is an application designed to give you total control over what is displayed on your iPhone. Amongst its many features perhaps the most useful is to hide any of your apps. Available only on jailbroken phones, the ease of use and multitude of options make this app a must have.
First you will need to install SBSettings from the BigBoss section of the Cydia App Store. Once it has installed open the app and select the ‘Actions’ option in the main menu and then ‘More’ at the bottom. This will give you the menu to control everything on your phone.
What we’re looking for next is ‘Hide Icons’ and you will see the menu to the right. It has a list of every app you have installed, along with its icon for instant recognition. To hide an icon you just follow the on screen instructions and turn the tab to ‘off’.
Now SBSettings will not delete the apps you switch off but it will hide them. If at any time you’d like them back you just need to open SBSettings, select Actions > More > Hide Icons again and just scroll to the desired app and touch the tab to switch back to ‘on’.
Poof! is also a popular app, solely to hide icons. This is ideal for users who already have an app to control everything else.
You will need to install this via the BigBoss section of Cydia and open the application. All that it requires you to do is tap to switch off any apps you want to hide. Like SBSettings, to restore them you just go back in and tap to turn on.
One surprisingly common problem with any app used to hide icons is if you hide the app used to do this itself. Many people before you have done this so here is a little fix which will ensure that you can get all of your apps back without having to restore/re-jailbreak.
Settings > General > Restrictions > Enable Restrictions > Disable Restrictions.
Can you hide iPhone apps without jailbreaking? That’s no problem, there’s a different solution for iPhones which are not jailbroken, rather than hide the apps we simply group them together in a folder. To do this all you need to do is tap an icon, hold it for 3 seconds until it jiggles from side to side and slide one icon over another. This will create a folder and you can add up to 12 apps per folder.
Granted these apps are hardly hidden but you’ll find you have a lot more space for your Angry Birds and Moron Test.

I saw an application called Siri for the iPhone4 today, and I’m impressed to say the least. I now understand why Apple acquired this company back in April.
It is a Personal Concierge of sorts. It takes audio input from you and tries to figure out what best suits your desire for a query. For example, you can say something like, "I want to find a restaurant that serves sushi and has room for 2 tonight near me…"
Siri will narrow down the search to restaurants near your location that serve sushi, then searches in OpenTable to see if there are any that have a table for at least 2 people and shows you the results and lets you decide. All this within a few seconds. Now that’s impressive.
I don’t know if Siri is coming out with an Android version (although I highly doubt that Apple would let that happen), but maybe Google will come out with something like this. My one solid reason to choose Android over the iPhone was the Voice Response capabilities of the Google related phones (BTW, I still love that about the Android). Now that gap is slimmer.
Thankfully, my wife has an iPhone so I don’t have to part with my Evo (Did I mention I love it?). I can’t ignore good apps on the iPhone platform, but for me, as a techie, the Android platform is amazing and getting more and more robust as days go by. I watch videos, talk to it to ask it to find me an address, talk my text messages and responses… Oh sorry, went off track, this was not about the Android.
Anyway, this author likes Siri. That’s all I have to say. If you have an iPhone 4, you should get this app. You will love it.
Why would an iPhone owner want to restore the smartphone to factory settings, wiped clean and empty as the day it arrived in its sleek case? Perhaps you want to sell the iPhone, or a company-issued device must be returned. Maybe you just bought the iPhone 4 and have a 3 or 3G you want to sell or give away. Whatever the reason, knowing how to restore an iPhone to factory settings, without losing or leaving data on the system, is vital.
Restore an iPhone to Factory Settings – Connect to iTunes
Restoring will wipe all personal data and all downloaded apps from the smartphone, so before you decide to wipe iPhones be absolutely certain you’re ready. You can’t undo after you clean an iPhone and strip the data, so go into the process with eyes wide open.
To restore an iPhone to factory settings, follow these steps:
Step 1: Turn on the iPhone. Charge it fully if the battery is low.
Step 2: Turn on your computer.
Step 3: Connect the iPhone to your computer using the USB cord.
Step 4: Back up any data from the iPhone that you need.
Step 5: Download the latest version of iTunes. This is critical for restoring factory settings.
If iTunes asks if you want to install the latest updates to your iPhone, accept. This is critical for keeping the device up to date.
Step 6: Finish upgrades.
Wipe iPhone to Restore to Factory Settings
Now you’re finally ready to wipe the iPhone of your files. Follow the next steps:
Step 7: Click “Restore.” iTunes will sync with the iPhone and proceed through the restoration and verification process.
Step 8: Leave the iPhone connected to iTunes and the Internet until the “Phone is Activated” screen appears.
That’s it! Your iPhone is brand new(ish) and shiny again.
Why Wipe an iPhone of Files?
Most owners wipe iPhones of files and restore to factory settings to sell, give away, or return the smartphone to a corporate division, but you might also want to wipe for a trade-in, because of a technical glitch, or for personal reasons.
If the restore steps don’t work, look at the Apple technical support website for restoring factory settings to an iPhone, and also look out for any information on the device that might help with technical glitches. Forums, information campaigns, and promotions all help users to find answers to questions, often with free advice.

The search for Michelle Parker is presenting some new clues after investigators have examined the missing woman’s iPhone. This comes while friends and family plan a benefit event for their missing loved one, to be held Thursday.
It’s good to hear that there are new clues in the disappearance of Michelle Parker, but it’s best that the investigators keep these clues to themselves. That is exactly what they’re doing, but it’s only a matter of time before some of the little details leak out to the media. Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney addressed the recent find, and said that there are some new leads being checked out in regards to the missing woman’s iPhone, which was reported in the first place as being in “remarkably good condition.”
When it was first reported that Michelle’s phone was found, it was immediately brought up how strange it was that this phone was in “good shape.” That’s because the phone was missing for a month. If the iPhone had been under water for an entire month, wouldn’t there be some oxidation or other damage? Forensic investigators have been combing over the contents of Michelle Parker’s iPhone 4, and it’s quite apparent that they’ve garnered more information for use in either finding her or building a case against someone—whether it be their prime suspect, Dale Smith, or someone new.
Benefit for Michelle Parker
In a high-profile missing person case, like the disappearance of the People’s Court mom, money is needed. In fact, without money to fund volunteer searches and other finer points in seeking information on a vanished loved one, it’s harder to bring closure to the situation. Benefits serve a multitude of purposes in these scenarios. In the case of Michelle L. Parker, three young children have been left behind. Dale Smith has custody of them, and the parents of the missing woman have visitation rights. This family needs help in any way they can get it, while still continuing their endeavors in finding Michelle.
The benefit will be held at Alligator Alley in Kissimmee. There will be live music among other entertaining aspects. Any help offered is most definitely appreciated by this family, who are going through an unspeakably tough situation.

The battle continues to rage between Apple’s iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy S3 with a recent Samsung ad decidedly taking a very snarky turn.
In a different take on the merits of each, tech blog Android Authority recently simulated a “drop test” of which smartphone would “take the hit” better if it accidentally fell on the ground.
Blogger Darcy LaCouvee dropped the Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5 a total of four times, each time from an increasing height to simulate real-life instances of people dropping the phone while taking it out of the pocket or at ear level when talking on the phone.
Both devices were allowed to drop on the floor to see which had the most damage. The results may surprise you.

Few hours ago Apple has released the 4th beta of its new iOS 5 which was announced in June at WWDC and few hours after the release of this beta, Dev-team has updated their Jailbreak tool Redsn0w 0.9.8 to beta 4 to jailbreak iOS 5 on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. But this jailbreak is tethered means you have to connect your device every time it is restarted to start it in jailbroken state, as there is no untethered Jailbreak in near future according to the Dev Team member.
The interesting thing about the iOS 5 b4 release is that it is an over the air update and more interesting thing is that the devices which have jailbroken iOS 5 beta3 will not be updated to beta 4 automatically. This means your jailbreak is safe till the time you update your device using standard iTunes method to iOS 5 beta 4.
Below is how iPhone Dev-Team member @MuscleNerd explained:
"The 5.0b4 OTA update won’t work on JB devices due to an explicit check of /Applications..almost like a present from Apple
NOTE: It appears that by design, the OTA update that became available starting with iOS 5 beta4 will *not* be automatically applied to jailbroken devices. That’s a relief to those who don’t want to lose their jailbreak via OTA pushes. If you’re jailbroken, you’ll need to use the standard iTunes method to get to iOS 5 beta4."
Remember that this version of Redsn0w 0.9.8 beta 4 will not jailbreak your iPad 2. Ipad 2 jailbreak is only available to the version 4.3.3 through @Comex PDF exploit but it is fixed in the iOS 4.3.4 update.
Redsn0w 0.9.8b4 is available for both Windows and Mac, you can download it from the Dev-Team official blog. Happy Jailbreaking!
Computers are wonderful machines. They are everywhere and society depends on them to manage our world. It is no wonder that computers have almost unlimited applications, and that they are multiplying at a steady rate. Many of these applications are benefiting society directly or indirectly. The three most important ways computers are benefiting society, is by, creating more information technology professions, creating new automobile safety features, and opening ground-breaking communication methods. There currently exist many other beneficial functions of these machines, such as their use for diagnosing patients, running weather simulations to predict future weather patterns, and calculating large, complex data sets. As new applications emerge for computer systems, so will the benefits society will derive from them.
Creating more information technology (IT) professions is proportionally related to how many new computer systems are put into use. As new computers are sold to consumers, the demand for more IT professions will rise because consumers will need these professionals to maintain, upgrade and repair their new computer systems. < Insert a fact here >. More employment is also made available when new computer applications are discovered. This makes sense because new applications require new professionals that are trained to deal with that specific application. For example, when the World Wide Web was introduced, many new professions arose. Some of these professions range from website designers and server administrators to online marketers. These factors show that computers are benefiting society directly by creating new information technology professions, which is vitally important to the development of any countries labor force.
Computers were introduced into cars in the late nineteenth century, for such effects as controlling engine functions, fuel injection, and signal light timing. It is not until recently, that computers have started to play a role in helping to save peoples lives by enabling car manufacturers to create new automobile safety features. Air bags are an extremely important safety feature in an automobile. A computer is located in the steering wheel of an automobile, which is equipped with airbags and is the only device capable of signaling the airbags to deploy in the case of an accident. According to McCormick (1999), it is an estimation that “between 1990 and 1997, air bags saved about 150 lives in Canada. In the United States, the
Can you smell AT&T Apple owners finally joining the future of face to face mobile communication? According to user kre62 of the MacRumor’s forum, after months of hemming and hawing (and legal threats) mobile provider AT&T has finally caved in, and turned on FaceTime over cellular data – something its rivals at Verizon and Sprint have allowed for awhile now.
The change is in effect for all Apple mobile devices whose hardware configuration is compliant with iOS 6, meaning iPhone 4S’s and 5’s, as well as the iPad 3 or higher – even those with unlimited data plans. Previously, AT&T hinted that only iPhone 5’s with tiered data plans would get the update.
I gave it a shot with my iPhone 4S (grandfathered unlimited data plan) and was (finally) able to move the forbidden slider over in my FaceTime menu. It took two reboots and ignoring a discouraging message, but Heaven and Earth finally slid over that fated quarter inch.
So how do you turn on FaceTime over cellular for your 3G/4G enabled iDevice? Here’s a step-by-step:
