How to Fix iPhone White Screen of Death

The iPhone series boasts of a range of Internet and multimedia enabled Smartphones which include novelty features such as built-in fixed-focus 2.0 mega pixel camera, visual voice mail, portable media player and Internet client with e-mail, web browsing and Wi-Fi connectivity. These phones have wide, multi-touchscreen user interfaces and include virtual keyboards. The first iPhone was launched in January, 2007 and the most recent generation of the Apple iPhone is the iPhone 4S. White screen of death is a reference to the error screen displayed by an iPhone when the operating system shuts down to prevent further damage on encountering any critical system error. The common causes behind such white screens are software bugs, malfunctioning hardware or poorly written device drivers. A white screen may also occur if the device is dropped hard or banged against a hard surface. The shock of the impact can make the screen go blank. So, how to fix that white screen when you encounter one on your very own prized iPhone? Let’s find out.

Fixing iPhone White Screen

So, your iPhone is screwed and you’ve tried all permutations and combinations imaginable to get it straight but it just stays the way it is – screwed! Well, browse through the below list of options and decide upon the best way to fix that screen of death.

  • Try Jailbreak and then restore your gadget;
  • Try to do a DFU restore;
  • If the white screen is due to BSOD or software issues, a few button maneuvers, DFU mode and restore can do the trick.
  • However, if you dropped it and the issue is due to hardware damage (usually due to connection becoming loose), you might need to dismantle your iPhone, if not under warranty. If under warranty, take it to an Apple service center to get it fixed.
  • If your warranty has expired, then you need to dismantle your iPhone and find the stickers labeled 1 to 6. Label # 1 is the LCD connector cable. If sticker 1 is not visible, then it is probably stuck to the screen and you need to pull it off the screen. Re-attach cable # 1 to where it should have stayed.
  • Software or BSOD issues can be resolved by pressing and holding down the power button on top and the Sleep/Wake button in front at the same time. Keep holding them down for 10-15 seconds and let the iPhone restart. On restarting, the Apple logo should appear with a black background. If it does, bingo! If it doesn’t, you had better take it to an authorized service center or get it replaced if you’re covered by the Apple warranty.
  • If you’re getting gray lines on your screen, then probably the LCD is broken.
  • Using firmware might help in certain cases
  • Also, unplugging and re-plugging cables #2 and #3, besides #1, might work and get your display back.

The common reasons behind a white screen are usually display-related as most of the time, other than the white screen, other applications like music, messaging, etc. work and the ring and vibration features of the iPhone are also found intact. Now that you know how to fix that white screen of death on your iPhone, you are equipped to troubleshoot your beloved gadget yourself. However, to be on the safer side, I would suggest that you contact an Apple service center to get it fixed if you are still within warranty period.

iPhone 4S Price Without Contract

Don’t let the humble little ‘i’ fool you, in the world of technology or in fact the world itself. Few things get any bigger than Apple and their revolutionary iPhone. You may love or you may hate it, but the truth is there’s no ignoring the iPhone.

iPhone 4S over iPhone 4

Apple’s newest baby (more of the same old baby on steroids!), the iPhone 4S doesn’t look or feel very different from its predecessor, the iPhone 4, except for the slight change in the position of the mute button and an additional ‘black line’ by its side. It packs a powerful A5 dual core processor, the same as the one in the 3rd gen iPad, a niftier GPU, claimed to be 7x faster than the iPhone 4, and a new 8MP camera that captures some amazing still shots, and shoots videos at 1080p at 30fps. Apple have also gotten a ‘death grip’ on the entire ‘antennagate’ issue by adding another antenna in their latest phone, which now is a truly global phone, as it supports GSM and CDMA networks. Another change in the 4S is that it now comes in a 64GB variant as well (twice that of the max 32 GB on the iPhone 4). Add to the mix, an ‘intelligent’ personal assistant in Siri on board the 4S, and we surely have a winner on our hands.

Contract Vs. No Contract

You can purchase a locked phone or contracted phone, wherein you will be unable to use the device with any other service provider, except for the one you are buying it from. The advantage here is that the price of the phone is considerably lower. You will also have to pay a monthly fee, irrespective of your usage of the device, for the duration of the contract. This duration can be either one year or two years.

The price of a phone without a contract is much higher than the price with one, but the advantage here is that you can switch between service providers as and when you please. There is no obligation to pay a monthly fee as well. This suits people whose usage of the phone is lesser, and thus they save themselves from paying a monthly fee that will exceed their usage by a fairly large amount.

iPhone 4S Cost Without Contract

So how much does the iPhone 4S cost when you buy it without a contract? Without a contract, this beauty would cost you $649 for the 16GB version, $749 for 32GB, and $849 for 64 gigs. This price is for the United States alone, and there are bound to be some variations when you compare this price to that in other countries. There are some countries where the prices for the iPhone 4S will be even greater for this, and one of the primary reasons for that is the ability to use the phone on other networks. Also, there are many countries around the world where the iPhone 4S is only available for purchase without a contract.

To compare, on any of the major networks (AT&T, Sprint and Verizon), the 4S is available on contract – $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for the 64GB variants, with very tempting rate plans. The difference as you can see is quite vast. If you are caught in a dilemma between a contracted and a non-contracted iPhone 4S, then you need to consider various factors like your running deal with your current service provider, the amount of usage you are likely to have on the phone, and the value-added services provided by the service providers. You might want to take all this into account before making a sound and well-informed choice.

Our Recommendation

With the rates for the 4S being slashed, and all the major carriers bundling it with some real nice rate plans, our suggestion is that you buy a contracted iPhone, and choose a deal that suits your requirements and expectations. The iPhone 4S price without a predetermined contract is a good $450 costlier, and you need to figure out if you will be saving $450 over the contract term. In most cases, this will be a beneficial deal for you. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint provide excellent network facilities, amongst a host of other features, and they also facilitate the use of the Apple Store for downloading various applications to your iPhone.

The 4S is by no stretch of imagination a cheap phone, but it certainly has the looks and an impressive spec sheet to show for it. One thing is for sure, that if you have made up your mind to pick up the iPhone, you will have little to complain about. With the market now flooded with high-end android phones, and rumors about the launch of the iPhone 5 sometime soon, the rates of the iPhone 4S are bound to come down further. In the meanwhile, if you aren’t willing to wait and don’t want to spend as much, you could always go in for the original and much cheaper iPhone 4, although you will not be able to buy it from the Apple Store directly. So maybe having an apple in your hand each day might not keep the doctor away (with the kind of apps available on iOS you never know though!), it certainly will help keep you smiling and entertained all the way!

iPhone 5g Features

UPDATE: Whatever was expected in iPhone 5 is now a part of iPhone 4S. In reference to the event held on October 4, there is no iPhone 5 so far.

Just a mere mention of iPhone 5g on Google, and you have zillions of results crying out loud for just a single click of yours. Every webpage will have its own seasoning on iPhone 5 release date, and features. Power of mouth-publicity soars high, and people write everything they hear, befuddling the user even more. Did it just click you that even I could be doing the same? Creating a cluster of words in the form of a write-up, putting it forth for you to read and grasp information? I’ll tell you. Today, let’s have no lame guesses. No back-fence talk. And definitely no speculations. The following information is devoted to iPhone 5g, 2011, considering how well a performer it will be. From all I could figure out from those rumors flying thick about this fifth generation widget, I must say some of them are, undoubtedly, true. What’s more astonishing is the fact that these back-fence talks make iPhone 5g much, much more lustable than it actually is. I think we reach accord here, don’t we? Let’s draw something out from the iPhone 5 rumors. Here’s an excerpt from my ‘seasoning’ on iPhone 5g features. A rather accurate one, though.

iPhone 5g Features: Why Should I Buy it?

If you’re a tech-sucker, I don’t think you’d be left with even a single reason to not buy this mind-blowing widget. Personally speaking, I’ve tipped my hand on all the four generations of Apple iPhone, but iPhone 5g features something that no other installment of iPhone could offer. Want proof? Here’s it.

10.2 MP Camera

When I researched about the release date of iPhone 5g, an enhanced camera wasn’t on the list. Well, now it is, and a rather better version. Steve Jobs puts forth 10.2 MP Sony camera chip for iPhone 5g, considering the paramount camera quality Sony boasts the most of. While iPhone 4g offers 5 MP camera already, getting 10.2 MP as a treat to wannabe photographers, would be worth watching out for.

Video Conferencing

Ahaan! Now, when one owns a 10.2 MP camera, having no option for video conferencing in it is such a shame. But then, Apple has never disappointed its devotees, has it? Video conferencing is one such feature that is going to be included in the list of iPhone 5g features.

Better Storage

When you have an iPhone, you have the entire world in your hand. Internet is at your service to give you better iPhone downloading experience. Well, that does call for better storage too, doesn’t it? iPhone 5g will come up with 128 MB of internal storage. What’s more, it’s likely to offer an excellent downloading speed of 100 mbps for its users. Now this is what you call a smartphone!

While the above three are what boggled my mind the most, the following is a list of other iPhone 5g specs, enough to leave you biting your nails:

  • Ultra-thin body (It’s even more sleeker than Apple iPod Touch 4G)
  • Retina display
  • 3D features (Ah, I’m not 100 per cent sure about it)
  • Would be available in white color too
  • Extended battery life
  • Face recognition
  • In-built GPS
  • Wireless syncing with Apple iTunes

Indeed, applicious! Sidelining all the iPhone 4G problems, Apple iPhone 5g is, undoubtedly, the most awaited widget of 2011. It’s your call now. To buy or not to buy. The phenomenal iPhone 5g features much more than you could imagine a phone could contain. For now, kill time by day-dreaming till summer 2011 arrives.

How to Block a Phone Number on iPhone

"boys over flower" "Kim Hyun Joong" "ji hoo" "Yoon Ji Hoo" "f4" "boys before flowers" "korean" "Kim Bum" "Kim Joon" "Lee Min Ho " "Koo Hye Sun" "Geum Jan Di" "Goo Joon Pyo" "So Yi Jung" "Song Woo Bin" "

They’re a pain. Those unwanted calls from telemarketers, credit-card agents, loan brokers, etc. who bug you at the worst of instances – times when you’re busy signing up a deal at work, watching a fun movie with your girlfriend, or simply sleeping. Dude, don’t you feel like throwing your cell away every time an unknown number flickers on your iPhone’s screen, and you know that it must be a call you are least interested in receiving? Well, not anymore. We tell you how to block a phone number on your iPhone, so that you watch movies without any interruption, don’t get vexed at work due to irrelevant calls, and definitely don’t have to wake up from your sleep in order to take calls you don’t want to. The following section gets you acquainted with how to block a phone number from calling you on the iPhone.

Blocking a Number on iPhone

Let me state it at the onset for you. First, your iPhone needs to be jailbroken if at all you want to get a phone number blocked. What’s more, you need to install an application that has appropriate settings for doing the same. There are two extremely good applications called iBlacklist and our very own Google Voice App. Here’s describing about both to save you from those annoying calls.

iBlacklist

With the help of iBlacklist, you can not only block phone numbers, but text messages too. What’s more, this application comes with a scheduler so that you know when it is possible for a person to reach you and when it is not.

  • To start with, download this application for free from the Cydia Store.
  • When you’re done downloading it, open it, and tap the screen in order to enable the app by selecting blacklist.
  • Followed by that, enter the number you want to block. You can also go to your phonebook and then select the numbers you wish to bar.
  • When you’re done selecting numbers, click on the Add to List option and put all the selected numbers in the blacklist.
  • After you’ve done that, from the menu, select Settings Calls and choose hang up, ignore the call, or no action, whichever option you prefer for the number. Similarly, you can block an SMS from a particular person by adding their phone number in the blacklist.

Google Voice App

Google Voice App, unlike iBlacklist, offers you three options for blocking phone numbers. Here’s how you block a phone number with the help of Google Voice App:

  • Go to your phonebook and select the checkbox that’s available right next to the name of your contact.
  • Then, select Edit Google Voice Settings and click on when this contact calls you.
  • When you’re done with it, you need to send the caller to the voicemail. This will allow your caller to at least leave you a message on your voice mail, if not be able to converse with you.
  • Here, you can mark the caller as spam and hence, your phone will not ring whenever this person calls you. Instead, if he leaves you a message, you will be prompted when the message is sent to your spam folder.
  • Third option is, you can directly block the caller with which, the caller will hear a message ‘this number is not in service‘. Also, in your missed calls, this number would appear as Blocked.
  • Amongst all the features of blocking a phone number with the help of the Google Voice iPhone App is one feature where, when you’re listening to a voicemail, you could just mark it as spam if the message is not required for you to hear. You just have to Press the 8 key, and the number will be marked as spam for all future calls.

Try the method out on your handset, and then come back here if it doesn’t work. But if you’re successful at blocking a phone number on your iPhone, you’ll be free from all those unwanted calls that annoy the hell out of you, forever!

New iPhone 5 Release Date Rumors: Prepaid Apple Smartphone and Specs Update

Is the new iPhone going to be available with prepaid wireless carriers? New rumors have surfaced about the iPhone 5 release date which have some questioning the future of the well-loved Apple smartphone. Cricket Wireless has partnered with Apple to sell the 4th and 5th generation handsets to their customers.

Is this a clue that the new Apple gadget may hit prepaid wireless carriers as well? Initially only AT&T was able to offer Apple smartphones, but now the other major US wireless providers have taken a bite out of the Apple handset craze, so it isn’t unrealistic to see the iPhone with prepaid carriers. As for the iPhone 5 release date, it seems the handset will launch will major providers first, with prepaid wireless providers offering the handset afterward.

A recent article says the Cricket Apple “phones will be carrier-locked,” and only “capable of using Cricket’s network,” unless they are jailbreaked. Consumers that already have an existing model won’t be able to switch to Cricket unless they jailbreak their handset, which not all consumers want to do.

What do you think about Apple partnering with prepaid carriers for their smartphones? Do you think the iPhone 5 release date would be as successful for major wireless carriers if consumers knew the handset were going to soon hit prepaid carriers with a lower monthly rate plan?

At this time the 6th generation iOS 6 Apple smartphone is expected to launch in September or October of 2012, with iOS 6 likely to launch at the WWDC this month.

Straight Talk vs. Verzion vs. Boost Mobile

My husband and I are looking to move out in the near future. We currently  do NOT pay rent, and we’re looking to cut costs where ever we can. We both currently have smartphones with Verzion Wireless. He has the iPhone 4S & I have the Droid Charge. I was not a happy camper when he said we might have to drop Verzion because I’m SO close to getting an upgrade to an iPhone! I hate android now. And I think it’s kinda not fair that he changes phones so much and I get stuck with his hand-me-down phones, so I kinda feel like I deserve the upgrade. But alas the phone bill will probably be too much when we move out on our own. I won’t have a job, I’ll be home with our daughter 24/7. And before you go ranting on how I need to get a job just think if you were an employer would you hire someone who has unpredictable seizures? Didn’t think so.

So my question is how good is Straight Talk & Boost Mobile? I know you can have smartphones with those too. Can you keep your same phone number?

Apple: Each new iPhone sells as many units as all previous iPhones combined

Apple (AAPL) investors, start your engines. The latest juicy morsel to emerge from the soap opera that is San Jose, California’s Apple vs. Samsung # trial consists of a remarkable state that comes straight from the horse’s mouth. The Verge, which is actually live-blogging the trial right now, caught a great tidbit from Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller. Each time Apple releases a new version of its iPhone handset, it sells roughly as many units as all previous models combined. “Each new generation sold approximately equal to all previous generations combined,” Schiller said while testifying in court. If the trend holds up, Apple’s next fiscal year is going to be absolutely explosive. The sixth iPhone will be announced during a press conference on September 12th, and it is expected to launch on September 21st.
