Why You Should Buy An Iphone Instead Of An Android Phone?

When Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007, it changed the entire mobile phone industry forever. As an answer to the iPhone, Google Inc. created and open platform operating system that has been powering some of the best smartphones on the market today. Why choose and iPhone over an Android? It is a matter of what you want and need from your cell phone. Below are several reasons to consider an iPhone.

If you don’t consider yourself tech savvy, the iPhone is for you. Android phones offer many options that the iPhone does not, but many of those options you won’t even use because you can’t figure out how to use it. The iPhone set up and interface is very easy to use, and you won’t have to download anti-virus software on your iPhone; you will on your Android.

The Siri personal assistant on the iPhone 4S lets you use your voice to send text messges, dictate emails, messages, schedule your meetings, place phone calls and more. Just ask Siri to do things just by talking the way you normally talk. Siri does understand what you say, she knows what you mean, and even talks back. The Siri appl is so easy to use and does so much, you’ll keep finding more and more ways to use it, even ask her what she thinks is the best phone or what she thinks about Android.

The iPhone 4S has an excellent battery life when compared to its competitors out there and with people using their smartphones more and more, battery life is critical. According to Apple’s specs , there is approx 7 hours of talking time and a amazing 6 hours of usage when used on 3G. So if you’re not like me and use your phone just calls and emails , the iPhone can last you well over a day but why buy an iPhone if you not going to us it, I love mine.

The iPhone Retina Display is amazing and needs to be seen up close and personal to appreciate see how good it really is. Pixels are almost invisible and the video looks fantastic, do you need that Sony camera anymore!!. Some Android phones on the market come close to that hi-resolution, but they’re still not as crystal clear as the iPhones fantastic Retina Display. Apple isn’t the first to put a super-high-resolution screen in a smartphone. Google’s Nexus One android phone, for example, features a nice OLED screen with a resolution of 800-by-480 pixels, but its subpixel arrangement has some issues when compared to the iPhone display.

Apples App store has now over 350,000 apps for iPhone/iPod/iPad. Unfortunately the Android Market has only around 150,000 apps. That 200,000 difference in the amount and varity of apps available is a reason alone to go for the iPhone.

Apple lets all iPhone users enjoy ever iOS update for free every couple of months and now with IOS5 release these updates can be done wirelessly, with a new major release once a year. Android updates come at the discretion of the manufacturer and cannot be done wirelessly, so you could be waiting months for the next version of Android, life is too short to way.

The iPhone 3Gs, 4 and 4S are now all cheaper to buy then compered to the high end android phones. The 3Gs is now available for free from AT&T with a two-year contract. That’s quite a steal considering you’ll get to enjoy most of the same features as the iPhone 4.

The FaceTime function, video conferencing is a so easy and amazing with the iPhone 4/4S. So with the latest update to Skype on the iPhone, you can make FaceTime video calls for free over any 3G network. Most Android phones have front-facing cameras by now, but not all apps work with each model. Qik comes close, but it’s still not as good as the iPhones FaceTime.

The iPhone 4/4S is all glass and metal packed into a thin profile. It feels solid in your hand, like a truly-high end device. We’ve used way too many Android phones that are covered in flimsy plastic and feel cheap.

I bet you are now, ordering your brand new iPhone online now, you wont regret it!

Best iPhone Apps for Cycling Make a Cheap GPS or Bike Computer

There are over 250,000 mobile applications currently available for Apple’s iPhone and cycling and fitness apps are no exception. Many of the early applications introduced when the iPhone first came onto the market have now been upgraded. This article looks at some of the best apps around for cycling geeks.

Mobile Applications for the iPhone

These mobile applications for the iPhone turn your mobile into a GPS and/or act as cycle training partners by tracking performance, distance and other parameters.

  • Runkeeper – offers GPS technology to track your fitness activity, giving you comparable results to an expensive GPS and easy tracking of all cycle routes taken; it’s ideal for those who like to keep track of what they do online. This app is free but there’s a paid version if you want to eliminate annoying adverts.
  • Cychosis – a cycling journal to record performance/training priced at $1.99. There is no route tracking via GPS as you simply enter ride your details into the application but no GPS means the phone’s battery does not run down quickly.
  • B.iCycle – a computer for road and mountain biking, slightly more expensive at £5.99 but for your money there is an easy to read, clear screen plus auto-pause detection to preserve battery life. This cycling app was chosen as one of Apple’s top 10 applications for 2009.
  • Trails – a great GPS app costing just £2.39 that can import and export bike routes to be shared with others if desired. It has the option to use phone functionality like music without interrupting the mapping, something that is not available on all other GPS-type apps.
  • Bike Computer – this is a great free app that is basically a simple bike computer with GPS tracking that is easy to use. It may not have all the functionality of some of the other apps above but it’s free!

iPhone Accessories for Cycling

While gadget-loving cyclists may relish using their iPhone instead of carrying two or even three other devices around, there are some key iPhone accessories worth buying if you are going to use your precious phone for lots of cycling:

  • Bike Doctor – this is a must-have for seeing exactly how to carry out basic repairs and the soon-to-be-released version 2 will offer emergency repair advice, all for $2.99.
  • Brakelights – a fun but useful iPhone cycling app to turn your phone into a red brakelight to warn motorists and other cyclists; just point the iPhone backwards.

The other essential item is a robust bike mount to protect your iPhone and stop it falling off the bike; consider these options:

  • Waterproof bike mount from iBikeConsole, fully weatherproof and with an option to swivel the phone 360 degrees and use the touch screen while on the move.
  • Dahon Biologic iPhone mount – fully waterproof and held within a strong plastic case, this bike mount keeps the iPhone safe by clipping firmly to the handlebar. A little pricey at around $53 from Amazon, but possibly worth it to keep your phone safe.

If you don’t want to attach your iPhone to the bike’s handlebar, consider putting it in a waterproof sports armband holder; there are plenty of options available under the iPhone armband category on Amazon or direct from the Apple iPhone store.

Cycle and Fitness Bike Apps

When considering which cycle and fitness bike apps to choose, remember that one of the big issues with some of these apps is that you can’t always listen to music or even use the actual phone when using the application if you want to keep tracking your route or cycling time. So these clever apps won’t necessarily replace a GPS or bike computer.

But for the geeky gadget freak who loves cycling, many of these apps are plain fun. Choose one of the apps above which preserves battery life and allows the flexibility to switch between the application and using the phone for other actions without losing any tracking data.

Bike Apps for the iPhone

With more and more outdoor and fitness applications coming onto the market all the time, it can be hard to keep up with the latest bike apps for your iPhone. So check out the suggestions above to find the current best iPhone apps for cycling to suit your requirements.

Paid-for iPhone and iPod Touch Applications

Paid-for Applications for the iPod Touch and iPhone can be really useful, but many of them don’t deliver on their promises and can turn out to be a waste of money. Unlike the free Apps on offer from Apple, a bit of research can help iPhone and iTouch owners to pick Apps that will make the device even more useful. These are some of the best paid-for Apps on the market.

Paid-For Game Applications for iTouch and iPhone

Mafia LIVE!: Rather than catering to iTouch or iPhone owners who just want a quick blast through an army of aliens, Mafia LIVE offers a slightly more intensive game of guns, greed and gangsters, which invites the user to join with other players, set up their own crime family and fight for the criminal rights to a city.

Though this game only works while connected to Wi-Fi, the community is fantastic and the game’s story is fairly deep, especially for a portable game. The graphics aren’t as good however, resembling the menus of a football manager sim, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. Cost: £1.97 ($2.61)

Brothers in Arms: Hour of Heroes: The iPhone and iTouch version of the popular Brothers in Arms series is a blast from the past. Centring on the soldiers of the 101st Airborne, the game sees the user fighting through a typical World War 2 plot, with the opportunity to fight on the ground and in a tank.

The controls are a little difficult to handle at first, but with practice using the touch screen becomes second nature. Graphics and sound quality is excellent- one to buy if you get trigger-happy on the train. Cost: £1.97 ($2.61):

Monopoly Here and Now: The World: Fans of the ever-popular board game Monopoly can’t go wrong with Here and Now. Offering play for up to four players or online play over Wi-Fi, Here and Now takes all the best bits of the board game and animates them in clear and colourful graphics, while also making good use of motion sensing for rolling dice and moving around the board. The ability to save games in progress ensures that this game can have the user addicted for days. Cost: £2.99 ($4.36)

Bejeweled 2: Fastest finger first is the order of the day, with another classic Bejeweled from developer Popcap. Fans of the older games will find not much has changed, but the use of the touch screen makes the game more intense, and the graphics are nice to look at- fans of Bejeweled need look no further for jewellery-based fun. Cost: £1.79 ($2.30)

Super Monkey Ball: Anyone familiar with the Super Monkey Ball (SMB) series will really enjoy this App, as it has retained all the ball-rolling fun that has become the SMB series’ trademark. The objective is to get a monkey in a ball from one side of the map to the other; the major catch being that tilting the iTouch or iPhone tilts the level under the ball, not the ball itself. Rendered in colourful, bright graphics and with a series of increasingly tricky levels, SMB is an addictive game, if a little overpriced. Cost: £4.99 ($6)

Paid-For Utility Applications for iTouch and iPhone

Appsniper: It is easy to forget that buying lots of Apps will quickly result in empty wallets and purses, so this App is an ideal investment for saving money, and will quickly pay for itself several times over. Appsniper is basically a market-trading program that monitors the price of Apps in the App Store and shows a regularly updated list of the cheapest Apps.

It can also be programmed to monitor the prices of individual Apps as they rise or drop, so catching a bargain when it drops in price becomes a lot easier- if planning to buy a lot of Apps, get this one first and save money. Cost: £0.59 ($0.80)

Byline: Byline is the ideal tool for anyone who is always using RSS feeds to keep in touch. Using the free Google Reader tool, Byline downloads the latest updates from any subscribed RSS feeds and displays them for the user, even when offline- in a similar way to the BBCReader. Although the interface is quite ugly to look at, it displays all the information in a neat browser style that is easy to navigate- regular users of Google Reader will find this to be the ideal companion for the iTouch or iPhone. Cost: , £2.99 ($4.36)

Paid-For Educational Applications for iTouch and iPhone

Starmap: Stargazers need look no further than this handy App to be able to discern a place in the universe. The App features full map of the sky which can be set to user’s location for easy identification of constellations and other heavenly bodies. The App also features an encyclopaedia of information on the sky at night and is great for introducing beginners to astronomy, however, beware of the hefty price tag. Cost: £6.99 ($10)

Wordbook English Dictionary and Thesaurus: A dictionary is an odd choice for an Application on a mobile device, but Wordbook is a fantastic tool for the literary minded, loaded with all the features of a normal dictionary and thesaurus but in a much easier form.

The App makes full use of the iTouch and iPhone’s touch screen technology and displays everything in a clear and easy to read form. Although the dictionary is mainly filled with American English, Standard English is highlighted under the appropriate word and easy to find- an ideal App for users who always like to have a dictionary nearby. Cost: £2.39 ($4)

Paid Apps can be a good or bad investment, but these ten offer the user a good cross-section of the best on offer, especially if using Appsniper to find the cheaper deals.

App Enables iPad 2 Jailbreak From Your Browser

Methods for jailbreaking the iPad 2 have been out there almost since the device’s release in the spring. Now, with the official release of JailbreakMe 3.0, jailbreaking the Apple tablet can be done in minutes from a Safari browser window via the JailbreakMe Web site. Other methods have typically required connecting the iPad to a computer, which then does the heavy lifting to gain root access to the tablet.

Once jailbroken via JailbreakMe, the Cydia app store is installed on the device and adventurous users can install a variety of apps not screened by Apple, as well as use a few other features. The whole process takes just a few minutes and can be done from the iPad 2 jailbreak–or most other iOS devices–without any other hardware.

Comex, the Apple hacker behind the jailbreak, initially broke into the iPad 2 in March, and has apparently been working to polish the JailbreakMe Web app ever since. The key is a vulnerability in iOS 4.3 tied to how the system displays PDF files. The folks at Cydia, having a healthy sense of irony and service to Apple, offer a fix for the vulnerability in their app store.

JailbreakMe’s developers swear it won’t damage your device or make it more vulnerable to intruders, but as always, jailbreak at your own risk.

iPhone app reviews: Rumba

After using the Tango Lesson app for the iPhone, I decided that the other dance apps from the same developer would be next in my download list. I downloaded Rumba, a free app from the Ballroom Dance Channel. Since I enjoyed the Tango Lesson app so much, I thought that this would be another good choice.

Fortunately, Rumba’s interface and quality is so similar to Tango Lesson’s that I am not disappointed in the very least. For people who are expecting full rumba lessons, Rumba is not the right app. First of all, this is only a “freebie” app that shows some basic moves. The instructions video is less than 3 minutes long, but I was surprised at how comprehensive the lesson actually was. Even though I did not learn all of the rumba moves that I’d need to be on “Dancing with the Stars,” I did learn enough to impress my friends and family the next time we’re on the dance floor.

The instructions were also clear and easy to follow, just as they were with Tango Lesson. The app slows down at some points and shows the user each partner’s part separately. This way, the user can figure out which part relates to him or her and then try to practice it either alone or with another person. The app encourages the user to pretend that his or her iPhone is a partner, but I learned the steps much more easily by actually dancing with another person. It’s important to know how the other person’s feet are going to move, and dancing with another person will help you learn that.

The video was also high quality. It was not fuzzy at all. I did not have to squint or go back repeatedly to some sections because I couldn’t see what the couple was doing. I like that there are two separate videos: one for teaching and the other as an example of how to do the rumba. Anyone who wants to learn some rumba steps will want to try this free app.

With all of that in mind, I would highly recommend Rumba. This is a great app that has taught me some basic rumba dancing moves that I can now practice and perfect. I will certainly be trying all of the other Ballroom Dance Channel apps because they are free and they are pretty comprehensive for the price.

Icebreak for Couples Review: Use This App to Get Closer to Your Partner

Are you looking for a way to fix your relationship? Do you want to get to know your partner better? Then Icebreak for Couples is for you! This app is available for iPhone and will soon be coming to the Android market.

This week I spoke with Christina from Icebreak for Couples. This app is not a way to meet someone, but is made for a person already in a relationship and just looking to enhance it. It is available online and also as an iTunes app. One great thing is that it is all free to use.

Every day you log into the app and you can answer question about your significant other. It also tells you to take a picture of something. Examples are something obnoxious, something funny, or something that makes you smile. If you don’t want to take a picture, you can also draw one which is a lot of fun!

Your partner doesn’t have to sign up for the app for you to use it. You can send them an email with your answers. You can also read what other people put as their answers if they are willing to share them.

All of the questions are based on three principals. They are affection, communication, and excitement. It is great to have the questions made to help you make your relationship better.

Another great thing about Icebreak for Couples is that you earn points on the app. Once you hit 500 points, you can go on a date with your significant other and they will pay you 20% of it back! Now that sounds like fun!

I played around with the app for about a week and I enjoy it! It is really easy to use. One of my favorite parts was being able to draw pictures and have fun with it. I also liked being able to read answers from other people and see if they agree with my thoughts on things such as infidelity.

Check out Icebreak for Couples on iTunes or Theicebreak.com. It is free to use!

iPhone 5 Release Date, iPad 3 Release: Apple Updates iBooks 2, and More

Even though Apple continues to give consumers a steady stream of life-changing, habit altering new products, gadgets, and software every couple years — users all over the United States and Canada are desperately trying to figure out the iPhone 5 release date for North America, as well as the iPad 3 release date. Apple has been busy though… Recently they announced their iBooks 2 service and iBook Author application for iPad – making a bold step into academic publishing. High school, university, and college textbooks seem to be the next major market that Apple is going after with its new partnerships with Pearson, McGraw Hill, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and others, and it affects these other platforms.

iPhone 5 Release Date

The rumor mill for the iPhone 5 release date puts it between June and September of 2012. This makes sense because it puts the new model iPhone on sale before the important back to school shopping, and all of the ‘off to college’ purchases are made. If it has the dual processor A6 chip in it, and a 10MP camera, it will definitely tempt many users to upgrade – including those from iPhone 3. The new power of these latest gadgets also completely validates the strategy and process of Apple designing its own chips in recent years — although manufacturing will still likely be done by Samsung and others. It will also be interesting to see if there are other serious design updates that have an impact on the functionality. At this point, I expect mostly software based innovations.

Apple may have disappointed some users in October 2011 by introducing the iPhone 4S rather than the greatly anticipated iPhone 5 — but there clearly were not enough improvements over the previous model to warrant the new number. Of course Siri, the new voice assistant, was the big change that Apple was touting at that release. Let’s see if iPhone 5 makes any changes to how you use that function. Much of what seems to go into new releases now for Apple is design implementation improvements of internal functionality. If the iPhone gets some near field capability, watch how ecommerce is likely a target there. (Many have been anticipating some sort of team up with MasterCard and or Visa on this front!) That may require some new hardware updates.

iPad 3 Release Date

With the help of various production schedules, and reports from manufacturing sources, the latest rumors online put the iPad 3 release in spring 2012, likely April. It will also probably feature that A6 processor – but likely in a quad-core format. Techradar.com is one of the places online also suggesting that the case of the iPad 3 might be different based on Apple’s hiring of a ‘senior composites engineer’. This engineer has been at Apple almost a full year based on his Linkedin page, after more than thirteen (13) years developing carbon composite bicycles for Kestrel. This would mean a lighter more durable iPad design. Will they be ready by spring? How many new users will finally get an iPad then?

The release of a new iPad model might also signal a new Apple OS (operating system), and the timing might align with their plans to make serious inroads into the academic textbook publishing market. With a possible April 2012 release, the new iPad, a number of titles available because of their publisher deals, and the groundswell from iBook Author, they might just change college bookstores and textbook buying habits forever starting with the fall 2012 semester. The strategy with iBook Author, a free Mac application that allows easy iPad-formatted textbook publishing, might just be to create enough direct-to-publishing multi-touch interactive books to pull the rest of the market towards Apple’s new plan. It’s also a major attack on Amazon, the Kindle, the Kindle Fire, the Barnes and Noble Nook reader, and every other e-book reader and tablet out there that’s suffering from just-a-bit-too-slow adoption to really matter. (Speaking of competition… Can Research in Motion even survive as a stand alone company through 2012?)

It was the widespread use of the iPod, plus the fully stocked iTunes store, that made Apple number one in music retail. Even though Amazon has a big lead in books and ebooks, the Kindle cannot be the tablet of choice for academic publishing because it can’t offer the 3D graphics, interactive design, multi-touch capability, embedded audio and video, and all the other features Apple has unveiled in its iPad for textbook publishing. On top of that Apple has the iTunes store and iTunes University, which already has so much content that this is what higher ed has been waiting for. College will change — academic teaching may even change — if this technology is adopted into academic publishing worldwide. Can you imagine the college sales of iPads if this is widely adopted? There are individual colleges in Florida that have more than 40,000 students! Spin this out to the entire country…

CONCLUSION

The release date for the iPhone 5, the release date for the iPad 3 and the development of the iBooks 2 service and adoption of the iBook Author app means that Apple’s going to have a quite a year in 2012.
