Volvo updates XC90 – News

The XC90 is now on its ninth year of production and Volvo is apparently still not finished with it as the Swedish carmaker is giving its full-size sport-utility vehicle a thorough update.

“The XC90 still boasts all the virtues that have made it one of our most successful models ever. The spacious and flexible crossover combines excellent handling and comfort with superior get-you-there ability and flexibility,” said Volvo’s senior vice president of research and development, Peter Mertens. “Now we have upgraded the XC90 with a number of features that emphasize the large SUV’s unique blend of sophisticated elegance and capable ruggedness.”

Starting off the update on the exterior is the new LED daytime running light configuration in the lower bumper to give the front fascia more character. a silver metallic bumper bar and roof rails are now standard on all variants and so too are the new body-colored lower door moulding. At the back, the new taillights have dual light guides and LED brake lights. a new six-spoke, 18-inch wheels in matte silver finish round out the exterior upgrades.

Inside, a number of refinements are given to the XC90 to make it even more luxurious, like the three-spoke steering wheel, aluminum trim and the watch dial-inspired instrument design with white lighting. in addition, the split tailgate now comes with a new, color-coordinated leather grab handle while the load cover has also been redesigned.

In the Executive specification trim, the XC90 features a number of exclusive options like soft leather seats with ventilation and massage to go with the number of details with a more exclusive finish.

The R-Design version, meanwhile, boosts the XC90’s sports appeal and gives the car a more driver-focused character. on top of the special chassis, the new R-design version also features redesigned upholstery, inlays, door panels and new 19-inch wheels.

In markets where the Volvo on Call system is available, it can now be combined with Bluetooth mobile phone connection. Also new is a mobile application that is an extension of Volvo on Call and allows the driver to stay in touch with the XC90 an iPhone or Android smart phone.

“Creating an intuitive and ergonomically optimized relationship with the car is part of our aim to offer a feeling of relaxed control. The mobile application is much more than a gadget. It is the first step in our connectivity strategy. We have started to build a bridge to the future – and the mobile app will be extended with a range of possibilities,” Mertens added.

Orders for the updated XC90 will be entertained from late October.

You think the upgrades are worth it if an all-new XC90 is already in works as one Volvo official revealed last May? let us know by sharing your thoughts in the comment box below.
